I mean they might put Bird at centre which would bump Mead to bench / out of squad and Kahu on the wing with Mcguire or Sevelio (if he's actually decent) going to lock.

If we were to have a utility on the bench I would drop Sims out of the 17.

If Bird isn't at centre I think the most likely scenario, at least from the start of the season is Kahu to stay on the wing and Opacic getting his chance to show what he has got.

I thought Joe was quite good when he started at the back end of this season. Better than what Ese was doing.

I like Sims, but more in the Blair, defense/pressure on kickers type mould. I don't remember him giving us much go forward with his hit-ups and I didn't really think we were very good at getting out of our own end when they were both on the park at the same time.....

tbf though, we struggled a fair bit with that regardless of what forwards we had on the park. We need another monster or 2 like Lodge.

True... I can't recall when he actually injured his knee(s). Has anyone got the records for when it occurred and how many games it has actually cost him over the years??

It's reported on in the media but from memory he doesn't have it strapped to the hilt like GI and co.

He's never been a super athletic player reliant on his step and pace.
 
With reference to the earlier "Oates to backrow" discussion, the only scenario where WB moves Oates of the wing without a high quality winger to replace him, is if we are desperately short of talented backrowers, and that's not the case

You can debate whether or nor such a move would be better for Oates, but this is a team sport, and with our current backrow and wing stocks, Oates best spot in this team is wing, and he isn't moving anywhere unless a high quality replacement is found

Korbin Sims offered **** all go forward for us this year... he offered us solid impact in defense but his go forward was on par with Blair.

Bird himself as said there was no expectation on which position he would player for us, he said there was barely any discussion on it, and that he would play where he was needed

I guess you have to ask yourself.. who would you want out there defending next to Milford close to the line.. maybe a big abled body like Bird inside Oates may fix a lot of the defensive issues we have with Milford letting in Michael Morgan tries in the final 10mins. Moga became pretty good late in the season, but now he's gone and we're back at square 1.

Don't see Oppaccic filling that void...

I dont think we would need to worry about Opacic in defence. Moga had one good game in defence all year for us. I dont think we need to be overly concerned about our backline at the moment. Halves and hooker backup, possibly forwards should be our priority.
