1. Boyd - Had a really good first half than completely blew it in the 2nd. His missed tackle on Munster was diabolical, his up and in defence and slow running was exploited fully by Smith (again) and his leadership went missing, yet again, when things started to go against us. He remains arguably the worst captain in the comp. 4
2. Oates - Pretty average game by his standards. Didn't really make an impact in kick returns like he usually does and was caught out under the high ball a few times which led to points conceded. Hardly sending a message after his Origin snubbing. 5
3. Opacic - Time has run out for young Opa. He looked solid in his debut year but ever since, he's been an underwhelming stop gap. Staggs by all rights should replace him at starter before the season is over. 3
4. Kahu - Did well to set up Isaako for a try on his outside but otherwise was not allowed to have much of a night because of the teams overall performance. 5
5. Isaako - Much like Boyd, he started off really strong, scored a try then promptly rolled it all back with a horrendous missed tackle leading to Melbourne's first try then ridiculous dropped balls at crucial moments later on. Very forgettable. 4
6. Milford - Being the only half on the field makes criticizing him hard, but considering his pay packet, it is hardly asking much to expect a lot more from Milf than he is delivering. Had a few good kicks in the 1st half when we were on top then was unsighted for the rest of the game when he should really be stepping up with the freakish circuit breaker play. I'm really worried about him. 5
7. Nikorima - I am officially at the end of my tether. Banking on Nikorima in the halves after last year was understandable from a fan point of view, but Wayne and the recruiters are the ones who are paid to know better. And they really should've known better. Our situation in the halves has been a catastrophe for our season. 2
8. Lodge - Solid night in an otherwise beaten side. Not much to say about him really. 6
9. McC - Backed up his Origin debut with a signature average performance. Solid in defence, shocking in attack. It's the definition of his career at this point. 5
10. Thaiday - Had a pretty good night all things considered. Was a big part of our first half effort then by the time he got back on in the 2nd, we were already shot to ribbons. We can only hope he doesn't drop his head again if/when our season looks done. 7
11. Glenn - Put in a performance that completely justifies my middling to low opinion of him. He may as well have not been out there at all, and didn't even do a very good job of backing Milf in defence. 3
12. Su'a - Similar to Lodge, just a solid all round game in a beaten side with no glaring negatives to be upset about. Still, I wouldn't be too worried sitting at home if I were Gillett. 6
13. McGuire - Backed up well from Origin and a long stint on the sideline, and shock horror, I can't remember him killing our momentum with a 4th tackle hitup once all game. Huzzah. 6

14. Mago - Again, can't even remember him being out there. Makes you wonder what Wayne is trying to achieve with him (A band aid solution to Haas injury). 3
15. Joe O - Was pretty happy with him. Came on and kept the motor going up front with some good runs. Might feel a little dudded going from being in Origin talks to benched. 7
16. TPJ - I love his passion, and you can't deny his ability, but he let us down with hot headedness a couple of times tonight. He was directly responsible for 2 penalties for getting in Melbourne's faces, which I otherwise would've loved....in a side that won in a game not refereed by Ben fucking Cummins. 6
17. Staggs - Came on too late to stand out but he didn't shame himself by any stretch. Should by all rights take Opacic's starting spot for the rest of the year. 5

We sucked. Picking out moments like this only serve delusion to the other areas that we are bad at.

Sorry mate, you let us know when we are allowed to discuss something other than “ we’re shit”.

Good to see Boyd has been zipping down the M1 to get in some tackling practice with his mate Bryce.

Attitude comes from the top, and that effort there just about sums up ours today.

Good for 25mins at the start and then gradually more and more awful.

18. Wayne Bennett - He has been around a year too long. It irritates me that he was always so proud of his "let them go a year too early rather than a year too late" mantra but now it's obvious that doesn't apply to himself or Boyd. No wonder so many greats of the club don't like him. 2

BTW (oops, "by the way"), I was given a warning by the moderators (not sure if it was just one or a collective effort) for using initials. It was patently ridiculous but I'm just wondering if the same is true for you as you stated "TPJ" and "McC".

Playing with our tactics and doing both halves' job... he's just trying to swim against a massive rip and is slowly drowning in the process.
I've been critical of this guy but really, I'm starting to come around, or already have come around to the idea it's not his fault. He is being forced to try and play a style of game he isn't suited to.

What's a tpj? Is it to do with salary caps?

Typical Broncos performance. Storm give free opportunities then can’t close a game.

1. Boyd. 2. Good try (hole was size of Texas but got it done). Another good ball. 3 of storm tries were directly linked to his deficiencies. That missed tackle on Munster was pathetic yes offa was poor but that grab was cause for firing. Niko leaving hole cause Boyd never at back, and strolled to get that ball he was pushed out on (had no problem with Storm effort if it is consistently applied but as we saw 2 sets of rules). Absent second half and another lesson in captaincy by Smith. When refs are talking to Lodge and McGuire at tryline why wasn’t Boyd putting ref in his place - it was inappropriate for ref to not have captain involved.
2. Oates 3. Disappointing game. Rocks and diamonds but not good enough. Lacked punch in attack and outleaped.
3. Opaic. 2. Not demonstrating first grade standard.
4. Kahu. 4. Not a centre. Good meters and a try but lacks threat and still waiting for next injury.
5. Isaako. 4. Amazing run then bombed it. Needs intensive training on defensive positioning on the wing.
6. Milford. 4. Good assist to try assist. But what a waste. Looked half the speed of previous. Looked gassed despite barely playing origin.
7. KNik 1. Throw a number 7 jersey on a random QCup player and will likely do better. No runs, no organising, barely kicked, turnstile in defence.
8. Lodge. 7. Another solid effort.
9. Macca. 4. Would understand him being flat after debut but honestly what is the difference. Tries hard in defence again.
10. Thaiday 6. Best game all year. First half had moments of 5 years ago then went absent again.
11. Glenn. 3. Needed another week off. Flat, slow, and largely ineffective.
12. Sua 5. On and off but give him a year or two and will be amazing.
13. McGuire. 5. Understandably flat then misused as hooker late in the game when barely had energy to bend down to get ball. If he plays at all he shouldn’t start after coming back from injury and origin at once. Terrible coaching.
14. Mago N/A. Didn’t have an opportunity and didn’t feel I saw enough to rate. Why not play a spare hooker.
15. Offa. 6. Would have been 8 if not for laziness on Munster try. Needs to start.
16. TPJ 7. Big meters. Tried too hard - need to start him to prevent that nervous energy especially after a 2 week rest. Guy just wants to hit everything on the field -let him FFS.
17. Staggs. 6. Looked ok but again not enough opportunity. Why not just start him a centre since coach obviously doesn’t rate Opaic and need a partner for Roberts longer term.
Coaching. Another poor display. Not sure where the week goes cause obviously it’s not spent in tactics, defence, fitness or kicking. Suspect 70% is telling Milf not to play his natural game, 20% rubbing Boyd’s bad hamstrings and other 9.99% at team meetings in the nearest Maccas talking about the right way take one up runs. 0.01% is planning not the use the bench for tired players but Bennett’s largely got that one sorted. Fortunately the traditional pre game running over Cummins cat is done outside training hours by our dedicated leadership group.
Reffing. Appreciate the effort to level the Charlie count at 79.59 minutes.

I think we actually have a really good team with very poor performing halves. Our halves might not be as shit as they look, it might be a lack of coaching structure, but they look like deers in the headlights out there a lot of the time.

Not to be a stickler, but I think you’ll find:
- BTW is an acronym;
- TPJ are initials, and;
- McC is an abbreviation.

Smith guides Storm to win over Broncos

June 10, 2018

Nelson Asofa-Solomona's new look seemed to energise the big Kiwi, as he led the way for the Storm with some bruising runs. But the Broncos' big men were up to the challenge and looked crisp in attack, using their speed out of dummy half to make ground.

After the teams traded early penalty goals, Darius Boyd found an opening in the 16th minute, stepping back inside Munster to score.

A handling error from Suliasi Vunivalu - who dropped a regulation Anthony Milford bomb - gave Brisbane another chance that they easily took off a scrum, spreading the ball right for an unmarked Jamayne Isaako to score in the corner.

Young Tonumaipea - who announced he will leave the NRL in July for a Mormon mission - brushed off four Broncos to score the Storm's first with eleven minutes to the break.

Addo-Carr then showed no effects from his first Origin game as he forced Boyd over the sideline following a perfectly-placed Smith kick.

Another Origin debutant, Felise Kaufusi, then used his size to run through Milford's attempted tackle and score his third try of the year.

Smith's conversion allowed the Storm to hit the lead for the first time at 14-12.

But the Broncos weren't done. After Addo-Carr went down with what looked like a corked thigh, the visitors attacked his way and Jordan Kahu crossed for their third.

Suddenly it was 20-16 to the Storm. The Broncos looked likely with 15 minutes to play.

But Vunivalu's first try since round seven - leaping high above the Broncos defence - plus Hughes' score just before fulltime sealed the result for the home side.

Smith schooled us. He should be playing Origin.

Thanks so much for that.......
That’s quite OK!

I thought, seeing as though the second half of your comment was largely sarcastic, you’d appreciate one of a similar nature.

But on a serious note; I have shared differences of opinion with staff on here and witnessed countless more. But that doesn’t give me the right to criticise them for doing their job.

If you don’t like the forum rules or the staff, simply don’t participate.

A team playing without direction or purpose. It would be so nice to see a talented roster such as we have coached to maximize its strengths rather than um, err, what do they do at training?

Milford looks bored, disinterested and almost fed up - like a square peg being stuffed into a round hole, and not having a genuine half to help lead the side must just make it worse. Sometimes, I feel the Broncos have significantly contributed to ruining his career.

Opacic is not up to this level. Staggs is a no brainer for centre.
