Finch should be batting at 5. His entire selection was based on runs he was scoring in the middle order (both in shield and county) so while I respect that he played well opening in the UAE, he should be pushed back down the order.

First test team should be:
Harris
SMarsh
Khawaja
Handscomb
Finch
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon.

My ideal XI for this series would have been:
Burns
Renshaw
Khawaja
Handscomb
S Marsh
Patterson/Head/Finch
Paine (not a big fan but whatever)
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

That is the worst top 7 in world cricket but if the bowlers fire, the Aussies will win the series comfortably.

Wow MMarsh dropped? He has been poor but so has pretty much every other batsman and he is the VC. Interesting indeed.

I personally reckon we should sack every member of the Australian board and fill their spots with people who have the balls to stand up to India ...

why the **** are they allowing India to dictate the scheduling of our home series ... they would never allow us to dictate to them during their home series...

FFS, Adelaide has hosted the day/night test for several years now, but won't this year because India are refusing to play with the pink ball ... we should be scheduling the test as a day/night as per usual and tell them they have 2 choices play or forfeit.

CA is run by a bunch of pussies that are scared if India, they always let them get away with everything ... well it is time to stand up to them

ICC playing conditions say both countries need to agree to play a D/N Test. Any of the other three countries that have done it here could have said no too.

Or maybe we should get the pink ball right and give international cricket international standard equipment?

Australia at home have only lost five of their last 27 Tests but Adelaide is the great leveller.

Kohli loves it there. Last series in 2014 he was just a thing of beauty with twin tonnes. He has more Adelaide 100's than the entire Australian team. Three v Khawaja 1 and Marsh 1.

Kohli averages 98 in Adelaide- his first ever Test 100 was there too. in 2012. He's improved every time he's come here, if he improves again we are in all sorts.

It is supposed to be 39 degrees if Australia get caught bowling and our bats can't back us up then this could be a slog which will then impact on the next Test. Four bowlers with no back up could be hard.

Head is pretty much the only fifth option. Finch, Harris, Khawaja, Handscomband Marsh have eight SS wickets between them.

Ashwin will be interesting- loves lefties and averages less than 20 and we have Harris, Khawaja, Marsh and Head. But he hasn't bowled well here in the past and Australia is a hard place to bowl finger spin.

Our top 7 have the least runs of an Australian seven since 1979- which was of course depleted because of the WSC. The pressure on them will be huge. I watched Finch last week and v the new bowl I am worried.

Shaw was going to be great to watch, but I like watching Pujara too- if he is in that number three spot he needs to help Kohli and avoid Lyon.

Rahul gone for two, caught by Finch in the slips, bowled by Hazelwood. Excellent set up.

Kohli gone. India are chasing the loose balls at the moment, excellent bowling from Aus.

If Australia can keep them to about 200 they will have set themselves up nicely for a win. Great effort today.

I am not too sure, Adelaide this season has been very low scoring.

251, 268, 207, 313, 246, 273, 103, 231, 505 and 357.

Av is 275.

They've been leaving grass on it like a d/n pitch. Tomorrow will be the better day to bat than today so ideally Australia want to get them out tonight but not leave anytime to have to face 10 overs.

It's interesting the change in the Oval though.

If they can avoid the typical batting collapse and bat a full day or two, they will be every chance. I’d bet on India stepping up in the 2nd innings though with the bat.
