Ponga was almost certainly picked because of the media hype around him. I don't think it's a good example though, because it worked out for Kev, Ponga & QLD. But I mean there's definitely an argument to be made that Kev picked him for Game 2 because of the pressure from the media and not because Kev thought he was the best man to play utility for QLD in a series deciding match.

So was Kev supposed to overlook him because some of the FOGS shared his opinion of Ponga? It wasn't like Ponga was a bolt of blue, he was in the extended squad for Game I and essentially missed out because his club-side had a game that weekend. Steps had been made well ahead of time when Queensland secured Ponga's allegiance in early 2018 and Kev named him in the Emerging Squad (after overlooking him the year prior).

I actually thought it was appropos that Morkel brought up Fifita because they're both alike. Both are rough around the edges, but haven't done anything deserving of their reputations. However, that's neither here nor there and I'm grateful that UB was able to share that info. I see what others wrote at the time, I've yet to see any alternatives given.

He has a greater opportunity at rep jerseys at 7 than he does and 6 imo.

DCE is 30 this year. Munster and Ponga are mid 20’s.

An experienced 30 year old premiership winning halfback is exactly what is needed at the moment.

Hopefully Milford cements his spot as next in line

DCE and Milf could work. Milf just needs to be in top form, I’m sure Kev is eager to pick him. Really depends how Morgan and Munster are going, I think Morgan will be in the centres.

I’d rather Munster in the centres and Morgan on the bench

Yeah that’s what I’m suggesting. I don’t think milf will displace DCE this year.

Could also work, has Munster played centre? Who would you have at six and seven? DCE and Milf?

Yeah he has played some centre and did alright there.

Played centre against Lebanon in the WC, as well. Scored 2 tries.

I would have DCE at 7 and Milf at 6.

We'll have to sort out something quickly with our centres due to 2019 being the last year with Inglis. I'm going to assume Holmes will be back.

2020

1. Kalyn Ponga
2. Valentine Holmes
3. Cameron Munster
4. Michael Morgan
5. Dane Gagai
6. Anthony Milford
7. Daley Cherry Evans

A lot of talent there. Not much size though

Zero chance Munster and Morgan are the centre pairing imo. One of them perhaps.

Morgan off the bench?

Fullback.

More experience, more reliable under pressure and has a better passing game, and kicking game, out of all the other options available.

Ponga can play another year as a utility and take over in 2020.

Interesting. I think QLD will suffer though playing guys out of position. Morgan wants to be 7, Munster wants to be a fullback, Ponga is being moved to 6 prematurely. Should be Ponga at 1.
