I don't think the Cows have that kind of dough.
Yeah I think you're right there. Who knows though, it is the NRL soap opera and just about anything can happen in this sport.

Cause they were trying their backsides off winning games while the big3 plodders were raking in 800k+ doing diddly squat.

Fault is on the club for not securing these match winners. Quite opposite to the Storm really, pay overs long term for the plodders and play hard ball (eventual release) of the actual proven winning talent.

You are talking rubbish. We made Fifita a more than fair offer and he wanted to leave for a much better offer we either wouldnt match ( correctly so imo ) or couldn't match. You make it sound like we didn't try to keep him and just let him walk. I hope we do exactly the same with Staggs as well. Make him a fair offer, if he wants to leave thats on him, not Brisbane. The club have no doubt made plenty of errors, but Fifita wasnt one of them.

If he signs elsewhere while injured I’d tell him he’s relieved of all club commitments for the rest of the year. Hopefully it can push his new club to take him a year early, free up some cap space and let them rehab him.

Problem we have is whenever we let blokes leave early, we chip in and i dont think we should.

FFS surely we arent paying some freight for 2 years to get rid of Offa. We will be in the ballpark of paying 500k alone in subsidies to let 2 players go.

if you're right and our cap is a shambles ... then since the majority of those players already had registered contracts, it means we would have been $1-2 million over the cap for 2021 ... which doesn't happen by accident.

and here is the kicker ... the NRL would have had to allow it, since they will not register any contract that will push a team over the cap ... hmmmm

This is a very valid point.
Bird -975
Boyd -450
Kahu -400
Fifi -400
Offa -500
= 2.7M
+ Subsidies of Bird and Offa +500k
+ Flegler upgrade +200
Total = 2.0M Free?

The trouble is though, blokes like Offa have been so shit the past couple of years we have to chip in a good chunk to be rid of them. The club is kinda between a rock and a hard place. Yes it costs us some coin to move them on, but we would still be paying more for them to stick around and continue stinking it up for however long they are here.

Good riddance to them I say. Muppets like Offa have been taking us for a ride for far too long. Better to save a few bucks and piss them off and then put that cash towards someone who puts in some effort for us.

Hell, sign a couple of reserve graders to replace him and I bet we would see more heart and passion than some of these freeloaders have shown for our jersey the past few years.

Good on plodders like Offa taking what they can get. The real issue is the idiots handing out these contracts.

I guess Kelly, Mead, Copley and Asiata are all WAY over-priced?

Kelly Training - probably just above min wage?
Mead - No idea, 250?
Copely, is it even confirmed? 250?
Asiata, is it even confirmed? - 500?

Don’t think we have Copley yet. Probably gotta convince Glenn to play for 100k and get someone to take Oates off our hands to be able to squeeze him in lol.

Copley is a done deal. Not announced yet officially but he will be with us in 2021.

Lol, imagine if Asiata was actually on 500K (I wouldn't put it past the Broncos recruitment team). We'd be replacing one overpaid prop with another on the same amount, except that we'll also be chipping in part of Ofa's contract, effectively using up $600-700K to replace him with Asiata.
