Far out man, what has Willison done wrong?

a) He didn't exactly scream 'pick me' with his performance on the weekend (at least his stats didn't)

b) Unfortunately, he doesn't offer us something we don't have in the team right now. I.e. Taupau is probably the only player in our team that has a bit of aggression in him. he certainly shouldn't be starting, but he can offer us a Flegler type role off the bench ... Baker offers us the ability to play in the backrow, which we need right now, so we never have to move Patty from the middle again

Apparently Oates has confronted Kevvie after not being named again. Anyone got more info on that?

according to Badel / Meyn ... Oates "fronts" Kevvie after being over looked for Deine Mariner.

The article also says that Oates is upset about being assigned to Burleigh (due to distance) and implies that he is boycotting their matches. the club says their is no Burleigh boycott from Oates.

Kevvie says:

“Corey didn’t play on the weekend (for Burleigh) and I don’t think he will play this weekend either,” Walters said.

“We are just keeping him fresh.

“I just feel at the moment I want to go with our other two wingers in Deine and Jesse (Arthars).

“It’s hard for Corey, he’s not playing at the moment, but that’s not to say he won’t be back for us at some stage this season.”

“Corey is doing everything right,” Walters said.

“The reality is I can only put 17 out there on the field each week.

“We have good depth in our club, so someone has to miss out and wing is Corey’s position.

“I know it’s not easy for him but that’s the way it is at the moment.”

Asked when Oates will turn out for Burleigh, Walters said: “Corey has played a lot of NRL and eventually if he’s not playing NRL, we’ll have to play him somewhere and get him some game time, but we’ll play that card when we need to.

“He will get his opportunities, but he just has to be patient.

“He is too good a player to sit there parked (in the Hostplus Cup).”

a) Well what do you expect? He was probably jetlagged and it isn't like he was terrible. Plus I'd be ticked off if I was named for opening round and got booted on the eve of the game

b) He really does offer something none of the other blokes on the bench offer - punch and try scoring ability - he should have been first (ok second after Kobe) forward picked on the bench

Thanks mate, appreciate it.

Is an interesting scenario. I'm a massive Oates fan (while fully acknowledging he has an error in him). I also quite like Arthur's and Mariner should be brilliant once he gets accostomed to NRL.

Will be be interesting to see how this plays out and if other clubs come sniffing.

I think Kevvie is going with experience first up and giving Taupau first crack (by all reports he had a great pre-season), but if he doesn't perform in this game then he's out and Willison comes back in.

Yeah let’s play a pink concert when the seasons underway. It was already a sandpit for the Phins game

Willison gotta be injured surely. Massive strapping on his knee in th midweek photos, maybe they’re just giving him a few weeks

I like our chances on the edges this game.
Cobbo and Arthars v Tass and Gagai
Staggs and Mariner v Kennar and Johnson

Yea we have them on the edges, our middle and spine just need to step up I reckon.

Hopefully Reynolds gets into some form against his old club.

Can see Reynolds having a big game, some short kicks in behind Kennar and Johnson for Mariner could be really effective

As much as I want Willison in the team now, asking a young middle forward with a history of injury to play 27 rounds plus finals is a huge ask. I think our premiership chances improve if he starts in Q-cup and joins the top 17 mid-year around origin. Or used in and out of first grade to start with. If that’s Kevvie’s logic too, I’m all for it.

Having said that, we need to win as well to bank points. So Marty only gets so many chances.

Against the Roosters Jesse made the most metres out of the Broncos with 193 and just behind Tedesco, above any other Roosters player. Mariner made 121 metres.
Yeah cool. Oates would have been great for some tough carries against the Roosters.
