Broncos Junior Development

It should be a condition of being in the nrl that their junior team be at least based in Victoria. That's embarrassing for the nrl. I can't remember mentioning their business model being a shambles? Did I say that did I? They have no excuses left for not having more Victorian based players debuting for the club. THREE IN 20 YEARS?! Seriously, you cannot justify that in any way! How can you argue that evidence? 20 years! That's 2 generations! They fill their stadiums, they've had origin down their, they have 4000 juniors, they have run out of excuses to be a Queensland team. They can still invest here, like other teams do, but they spend 95% of their investment here...

Ok I will look at broncos top 17...
Boyd: south east Queensland (no Gold Coast team when he came through, we were the closest club by a loooong way)
Oates: central Queensland (closest club by a looooong way again)
Roberts: bought
Opacic: Redcliffe boy
Kahu: kiwi who came through Gold Coast
Milford: Brisbane kid who got scouted by a team from another state
Knik: kiwi who grew up in Brisbane
McGuire: Brisbane kid who spent a few years in nsw, moved back to Brisbane at 13 I believe
McCullough: Dalby kid, Brisbane is by far the closest club again
Sims: nsw kid, played 20's with us but can't claim him in the slightest
Glenn: kiwi kid who moved to Gold Coast
Gillett: bribing island junior. Brisbane was the closest club for him to call "local" again..
Bird: recruited
Ofa: born in nz but grew up in Brisbane
Tpj: recruited Newcastle junior
Thaiday: Townsville boy
Lodge: recruited

9/17 grew up in Brisbane or it was the closest nrl team at the time by a long, long way.. and this is a period where our best locals are often getting scouted by other clubs & we have less then normal. It's one thing we do better then most (give local players a go, up until recently when we no choice because we are getting raided by parasite clubs) so it was a poor argument point to raise in your argument

Melbourne: 0/25 AFTER 20 YEARS.....

The excuses have run out

So one player. McGuire.

Joe and Milford are from Ipswich by the way and Joe was contracted to the Roosters first. A lot of those players had other clubs first.

So pretty much Rocky is "Brisbane" but Storm need to stick to players born on the middle of the MCG.

I am confused, you are upset they have presence in Queensland but want them in the New South Wales Cup? Do you want the Hunters out of the ISC too?

If your criteria is someone else might have done it better then it would be impossible to give anyone credit for anything. The other consortium bidding for the Brisbane license may have gone better so nothing the Broncos do can get any credit.

Why are Perth investing in another state? That's wrong! Shouldn't be allowed to have a team in the SG Ball.

Jake Webster was born in Melbourne and played for the Storm, Fonua was born in Melbourne and was the first Melbourne product to play NRL. Tahu too was born in Melbourne.
I'm not upset. You get so defensive about the storm, it's hilarious lol. I'm saying, and have been this whole time. Storm should spend more time on Victoria then on Queensland. Every club picks from other areas, but they all-even the roosters-spend more on their local area. They have been there for 20 years. They have run out of excuses

That's not my criteria to judge them lol. All the positives they bring to the game in Victoria are purely due to them simply being there, any other consortium could have done that.

What has the png hunters got to do with it? I'm a bigger advocate to grow the game outside our strongholds then most. Completely irrelevant point

Like I said, 3 players in 20 years. That's terrible...

What? Lol 1 player? Seriously what are you on about sometimes.
and the mcg is pretty big, but it doesn't take up the whole of Victoria does it?

I would have thought it was obvious what my point was- if you don't like teams having presences in different states your head must explode with the Hunters. They're a different country spending time and money in Queensland.

McGuire- he's your one Brisbane player.

Gold Coast, Ipswich, Dalby, Rocky and New Zealand are not part of Brisbane.

Can you tell me what club will represent bribie island, Redcliffe, Ipswich or Dalby? And Gold Coast weren't in the comp when Boyd even made his debut.

Clearly, and I can't believe I need to explain this, the criteria was grew up in the region. It's the same criteria for Melbourne, any players from Victoria? You know, the 2nd biggest state in Australia they have been in for 20 years with the worlds best development team

Please quote where I said I wanted no Melbourne team in the comp?
I want a Perth team too actually, and another Brisbane team, and a Wellington/cristchurch team eventually, plus Fiji, Samoa and tonga teams in the nsw or qld Cup.
I don't even know where you got that idea from haha

Nothing even close to saying you didn't want Melbourne in the comp. I can't even fathom how you arrived at that.

I asked if you don't think teams should be having a presence in different states- Storm- Sunshine Coast. How do you cope with the QRL giving the Hunters a spot in Queensland.

So when will we see these Melbourne juniors? You guys are arguing points that haven't even been made. The Storm, despite what the media and you guys will attempt to have us believe, have brought nothing of a positive nature to our competition. They have added nothing that another club couldn't have done themselves. Again, the NRL expanded to Melbourne but after 20 years the Storm haven't even expanded there yet.

The Hunters at least have some players from PNG..

I think apples are being compared to oranges here.

The Storm are in AFL heartland, and will find as difficult (probably more) as the Lions do in Brissy, to get traction in schools to get development going.
Brisbane is RL heartland and cannot be compared, neither can PNG, where the sport as close to religion as it can get.

20 years may seem like a lot, and the lack of genuine Victorian FG players may look like nothing is being done, but the (slow) growth is there, and while it may take some time to see what the current crop of Victorian youngsters delivers, there are plenty of more realistic things the Storm should be blamed for.

At the moment, as a professional club, their responsibility is to be competitive, and that means they have to get the bulk of their players from other states.
Even the Broncos, which probably are the club with most resources and grass roots to chose from, source from the Gold Coast, North Queensland, NZ, NSW and even England...
