If Fai and Co are better than him then they will make first grade on their own merits. It wont be Tagataeses fault they are held up in the lower grades.

Except for the fact Bennett has shown time and time again that he often goes with experience over youth.

Tagatese announced by the club. I'm ok with it. He will be on like 150k-200k and will only be used if needed. Buzz will say he's on 1.2 million though

If he has come from Cronulla than its more like 2.7 mill and also a spite signing aimed directly at flanagan.

Home grown isn't working? Home grown hasn't really been given a chance to work. Fai & the rest of our u20 boys who are now looking for their shot have not really had any real time to gel playing week in week out and nut out combinations. I think it silly to get another forward who will roadblock these younger ones because of experience, rather than potential.

Roadblock? You understand what depth is, right? It's not like we have signed Jesse Bromwich and these blokes won't get a look in for the next 10 years. We have signed a player that will add experience when required. If our young guns can't outplay Sam then they shouldn't be in the team anyone.

In wayne I trust. But this is a head scratcher for me.

I don't get this.... Pearson, Fai, arrow, Taylor, knik, joe offa, Sua pangai jnr, opacic... all debuted under Bennett. If you're good enough you are old enough under Bennett.
These young forwards are extremely promising but even taumololo couldn't handle a full season in his first year. Fai, haas, Fifita, carrigan will need to be eased in.
Tagatese is there to fill a gap when needed. His defence is solid and he makes decent post contact metres, has experience for the young forwards for 1 year (it is one year everyone, he isn't pushing a junior out of the club), and is a different body shape. He also won Ye player community award this year
No injuries he will be 18th man, but there will be injuries and he will probably play 15-20 fg games
And broncsfan, you say he will let us down before going on to 'prove' it by showing he only made 2 errors and conceded 1 penalty in all of 2017 (12 games). That's a reliable first graders stats if ever I've seen it..

Yes and he has given far more regular games to Mead (Pearson), Moga (Opacic - injuries, yes I know). To a lesser extent, at times Marshall (KNik) instead of these other guys. I'll give you Arrow, TPJ, Ese'ese. He gave away Taylor for nothing. Su'a hasn't really been given much of a shot but probably will this year to be fair.

So yes, he does give young guys a shot so I am wrong in my statement so I take it back. However, he does at times give more experienced guys a run over youngsters when it isn't necessarily deserved - think Mead / Marshall / 2017 Blair / Thaiday (and to be perfectly honest, I am still thinking back to the Knights days where he played grandpas over almost anyone not named Sione or Mata'uitt''''aaaaa or whatever).

The proof is in his 2016 form where he conceded either 1 error or penalty a game on average in only 28mins per game when he was actually relied on by the team (20 games)

2017 shows how far down the pecking order he fell. Also difficult to drop it when you're only taking 5 hit ups a game.

As mentioned I have watched every sharks game since taga joined and he is a liability and hardly a solid first grader

He gives them a chance and eases them in. A young player has a bad game they MAY not bounce back from it (they probably will but why risk it?), an experienced player will. TPJ, offa, knik, arrow and ese2 all had regular first grade spots so I'm also not sure about the younger guys not getting regular games either? If they are good enough they will keep there spot, just like all those forwards did over dodds, and knik did over Marshall in the end. And Sua is our youngest ever starting forward debutant and he has played 8 first grade games by 20 years old, no opportunities?

You mean those players at the knights that Bennett repeatedly said weren't up to nrl standard and the knights fans whinged about it before they then went on to win 3 wooden spoons in a row with those same players Bennett said weren't up to standard? And they should have got a spot in front of those grandpas that got them one game from the grand final and there best result in 10 years whilst the club wasn't paying them for months on end, their star player was suicial and a player just lost the use of his legs for the rest of his life. Those grandpa players? That prelim was Bennetts best result at ANY club when you look back at the circumstances.

He didn't fall down the pecking order. He missed that many games because he had a calf strain. Also probably the reason for the decreased minutes and decreased acceleration with his hit ups which I noted this year. Sharks probably even played him with the calf strain judging by their record
He dropped ball in 2016 but he wasn't in terrible form. You don't win a premiership with a middle forward who gets pushed around playing an important role off the bench. All this being said, it's also been noted that he had an injury in 2016.

On top of all that, he isn't there to win us a gf, he's there to plug a hole when needed whilst the juniors come into the at their own pace rather then being relied upon. I literally do not get the down side to this signing. If he's shit he will languish in qld Cup a lot like dodds did, and to lesser extents Eden, Marshall and mead did. Even hunt did when he didn't do his job. Salary cap means every player won't be Burgess or Thurston, especially when they are a 10-15 game bench forward brought in to put pressure on the young forwards and provide experience if they aren't ready

Yeah I didn't say that Bennett didn't get results from those grandpas but if my memory serves me correct (it may not) he bought in those grandpas despite there being a few really talented kids who went elsewhere looking for opportunities that they received. Now, I could honestly be wrong there but I am sure there were some who did and when Bennett left, the club was not left in a good way as a result of those grandpas leaving as well.

Who are these kids?. Mamo?.

Half of you blokes need to play some grade football in your life. Maybe even play 10-15 first grade games for a season to understand how club life works.

Taga, althought not a superstar, is a solid pickup. He brings training experience, a cooler head, some size and some competition. The young boys will think they are being pushed away for old legs, but the mature and sensible ones will know that really Taga is there to fill in, do his piece and be solid. Wayne's probably had the conversation to Taga that he has a specific role, Wayne's also probably then had the conversation to the younger fellas that Taga will give them a run if they don't perform. No lies, all truths just different ways to motivate a man who wants a jersey on his back.
