It's not jet lag specifically it's fatigue your chances of injuries are more likely if you're fatigued. After a long season, WC and then travel to England you don't think they'll be fatigued?

You can't just keep flogging the players thinking they won't break down. Clubs put so much money and resources into sleep, loading and fatigue it's not because it has nothing to do with injuries and performance.

My point was the WCC has missed other years and ask 100 people and I bet 100 wouldn't even know. The WCC isn't holding the sport together.
So it's the fatigue that puts them at an increased risk of injury?

I was going to tell you all the reasons why a game in February will not cause a fatigue induced injury in September but I can't be bothered and I can tell you will just keep on disagreeing with me so I'll make this bit brief....

I'm a physio... It doesn't....

This mentality that a game in England in February 2 or 3 weeks before the season starts will cause fatigue and affect your chances in October is ridiculous with fans. Nearly every other sport in the world does it. Players are more at risk of fatigue induced injuries (eg muscle strains) when they have to play with acute fatigue (eg 2 days after origin like smith and slater do every year). The teams know how to manage players to prevent injuries from fatigue throughout a season via periodisation and adequate recovery, and if the players aren't capable of recovering they wouldn't be athletes...

Storm don't want to do it because it takes effort. Financially they'd probably make as much money going to the Sunshine Coast and New Zealand whilst keeping their players and recruitment areas happy.

Every club has self interest, it's ok. The thing that annoys me about the storm is they pretend they need extra help in Melbourne yet have shown time and time again that they wont go out of their way for the game, and they take a real us vs them mentality as well (their bitter reaction to the salary cap scandal is a prime example of this, they do realise they robbed other teams of a chance to win it because they cheated don't they? Yet they still celebrate their premiership and claim it was unfair! You don't want the punishment? Don't cheat!!! It's like they used a motorised carriage in a harness race then whinged about being disqualified!)

I haven't said the game will die if the wcc is missed. But it's that exact type of mentality and self interest that has held the game back so much, particularly on the international stage. The game won't die because of this but why put a nail in the coffin anyway?

I just said you're under great risk of injury when fatigued. You obviously don't think a full season, WC and travel to England will cause fatigue- sure.

The fatigue and injuries may cost them in September if they start the season with injuries and slowly- which is what I said. Didn't say the injuries would necessarily happen in September. More injuries happen at the end of the year so if they start the year sore and fatigued the chances of an injury go up as the season progresses.

They made the effort all the other times they've won and gone over there. As I said previously they should have thought of this with a WC here this year.

I know injuries happen in a trial in Dubbo or Redcliffe too but you're greatly increasing the risk flying everyone over to England in February to play one game when your guys are greatly fatigued.

If the Premiers had injuries and problems and started the year slowly would anyone say- doesn't matter they did a great job of promotion in February? No guys would still be under pressure for their jobs and guys would miss Origin out of form and they'd be losing games.

I'm just repeating myself here. So sorry to anyone else reading this...

I get it's the storm and they can't do any wrong in your eyes but I can tell you evidence suggests 2 weeks is more then enough time to recover from any form of jet lag (eg maximum time zones heading west) with mood-cognition-performance (a study by Gálvez (?) in 2012 I believe?sorry if I get that wrong, feel free to check it), particularly athletes....

If you are suggesting they will be fatigued by playing an extra game (?) then why are they replacing it with another game? Seriously....

Are you maybe suggesting mental fatigue? If that's the case then I'm guessing the mental effort it takes to win a premiership would cause more mental fatigue, and anyway thats up to the coaching staff and is really individual (some players may like the trip to Europe and view it as refreshing).

Once again they won't get fatigued in September by a game in February because they would change their program accordingly. Do you think they just copy and paste the same training regime every year or...? And they won't be fatigued/jet lagged with 2 weeks rest... so?

I normally enjoy debating you because it's entertaining but I'm seriously struggling to stick with you here.

I think he is alluding to cumulative and/or stress fatigue, which is a thing, although I 100% agree with you that a game in February should have zero bearing on what occurs in Sept, unless it caused an injury that wasn't allowed to heal properly under continuous game stress.
But that would be an issue with managing such injury and player, instead of blaming issues in September for and extra game in February.

Also, I am sick and tired of hearing about how hard RL players have it with a maximum 30 games a year. Soccer players for example, run 3 times the distance of a RL player per game, and often play 50 a year.

there isn't the same impact on their bodies in soccer though, as there is in rugby league

No there isn't, but the aerobic recovery time isn't any shorter for other codes.
Expect for the stupid post-Origin games, no RL player is made to play more than once a week, which is plenty to recover from anything but injury.

What soccer players, and most other codes do not do, is allow players to line-up while injured, potentially aggravating said injuries.
It doesn't matter whether you're a Ronaldo, Messi or a nobody, if you're recovering from an injury until the medical dept clears you.

Oh my goodness how can you not get that it is an effort to fly to England for football and it can take it's toll. That's it that is my suggestion- lot of effort by staff planning and players playing after a long season and a WC.

It's really not hard to understand. I'll say it again if there wasn't a WC I think the Storm should play it but given they played up to the Grand Final and then the WC- I agree with giving it a miss.

England left last night for the Ashes- 4 weeks away. Wonder why they didn't just leave couple days before the 'Gabba Test? It's not taxing or much effort they should just fly in their whites and go straight to the 'Gabba.

I don't think they're overworked normally but in this instance with the amount of players involved in the WC and the planning and effort of travelling I think it's a risk you can give a miss to.

Flight to Brisbane and play a trial and you've achieved the exact same thing for hardly much effort.

Haha.. You are entertaining, I'll give you that...

They didn't arrive 4 weeks early for jet lag. They are from England, where it's a bit colder, you did know that right?...ever thought of acclimatisation? Also, I'm no expert in cricket like you are in jet lag but....unlike footy, cricket pitches are different in different conditions therefore it would probably help to train on them. And even if it was because of the jet lag (which it isn't) I'm guessing they are more concerned with performance then injury minimisation due to jet lag. I've never seen such grasping at straws in a debate. There are 1000's of teams a year that travel across multiple time zones and even play 1 or 2 days later. 1 team arriving early isn't evidence. It's circumstantial and assumptive AT BEST.

Seriously, this has gotten boring haha. You've literally changed from "it will cause injuries"-to "it causes fatigue which causes injuries"- to "it's a lot of effort" and are still arguing with me

I would have loved to have argued with you when the storm cheated, you probably would have found a way to justify it

You have evidence about your original claim to change my mind I'll reply again but it's like debating with a 10 year old at the moment...

Except it's doing RL no favours, which is what people are criticising in regards to the Storm's contribution to the game...

Talking about jet lag again classic straw man.

Possibly but as I’ve said two English teams are coming here in February and there is a WC on now. Is one more game going to change the course too much?

Looking at is as an isolated incident, perhaps not, but it isn't, and it's not really the point, is it?

The Cowboys and Storm have just released the jerseys for this game. Some really nice details added to show important aspects of their respective careers.

I hope it's an embarrassment for the NRL, and I hope it's called out for what it is. Sanctioned cap rorting.

They will turn this into a negative against QLD and Brisbane.

"I thought QLD was the heart of League?"
"I thought they were footy mad? How can a great game like this not sell out?
"Would have sold out in Sydney"

etc etc....

Meant to rain in Brisbane on Friday. Hope nobody can be fucked going.
