You reckon that's given no try if its deciding a grand final?

I won't argue that NRL refereeing is wildly inconsistent, so I wouldn't say either way. But I guarantee if it was there'd be just as much controversy in the wake of it if it was, perhaps more since that would be a blatantly incorrect ruling under the current rules.

Swings and roundabouts.

We’ve had try’s not awarded for similar situations and been given try’s against us that were equally as questionable.

The problem here isn’t if it was a try or not. It’s that the interpretation of rules each and every week in almost every single game is inconsistent.

That’s what needs to be addressed.

Personally, I’d be gutted if that wasn’t awarded for us.

Gus unleashed both barrels on it.

Of course he did, because he farms outrage, and he only wants rules to apply when it suits his interests.

If we can score a try by slamming our body/forearm down on a ball (which has considerably less control over the ball than api did slamming it down with his hand) then it should be fine if the ball has movement in the hand, so long as it touches nothing after the fact, and the ball is planted with control.

Frustrating NRL.

Again, it's a different set of rules for kicks and loose balls. I don't agree with those ones, but I wouldn't argue a try given under them is an incorrect ruling while they are in place.

I will agree that the NRL are frustrating, but at least they have actually made the correct call on the Api try under their current rules.

How do you hold the ball planting with torso or forearm?

Different scenario. If it is from a kick you don't need to pick it up, you can simply force it.

If you already have the ball in your hands, you can't drop it without regripping/holding/catching the ball again before it hits the ground or an opponent to negate the knock on.

I'm not gonna get into the back and forth but I was pretty surprised when it was ruled no try. I'm with @Bish in that I'd be pissed if that was us. And then we'd rightfully argue it changed the momentum of the game. 10-6 when we were a bit shaky, who knows?

Rightfully argue? 😋

Yep, its try's like that i wish decided the outcome of important games, just so they get a huge spotlight shone on them and common sense might make an appearance.

Here's the thing.
Im happy with the call, because it went in our favor and we get the wrong rub of the green often enough that its great when it go's our way.
I just know that if that was a try taken from us, i would be fuming as i imagine a lot of tigers fans are.
Sometimes the rules are made for good reason, but i don't think it is in this occasion.
If we use discretion and common sense, i call it a try ( just my opinion).

Regardless, it just shows how delicate the rule system is in the NRL and honestly makes me sympathize with the officials on stuff like this. The refs and the bunker have a prick of a job and get scrutinized by the likes of assholes like me on the regular, when the job is clearly not easy.
**** Klein though, that guy can eat all the dicks.

People are arguing what they think the rule should be, not what it is.

If this ruling was made against Billy Walters instead of API, there would have been no controversy, all of the so-called experts would have been lauding it as a great call.

The funny thing is the rule was likely changed because of outrage at the decision Annesley references in his briefing.

What was that again?

It basically boils down to rules are rules vs. the rules are so dumb they're disallowing legitimate tries. If you show the exact same scenario to the lay fan, the majority would call it a try.

The only reason why a few of us aren't batting an eyelid is because we watch a ton of League and we can recount similar instances that were ruled similarly. I expected them to have another look at the Koroisau put-down, I wasn't convinced it was clean and that's what the bunker system is there for.

Keep in mind, it came off the back of a failed captain's challenge that appeared sus and three timely penalties to the Tigers.

**** this re-grip nonsense.

All you have to do is control the ball and apply downward pressure.
You dont have to hold the ball at all.

How do you grip a ball putting a try down with the torso or forearm?

The ball doesn't touch anyone or anything before he plants it with controlled downward pressure.
That's not the rule.

2 more days giving my mum grief about her losing team 😆😂

Its controversial for a reason, regardless of the stupid fucken rule they put in.

Thats a try. Every. Day. OF. THE. WEEK.

its not like the NRL enforces their own rules on a regular basis anyway.
Every game there is a terrible call going one way or the other.

Api was given a try on the field and there is no way it should have been overturned.
I could give a **** if there was a brief moment of "separation" or the ball bobbles in his hand.
I rewatched it again a few times and the ball moves under his palm, as Sproj said, there is even an argument he never even lost contact with the ball, so it just moved in his hand, no separation.

I cant understand how you guys are calling this black and white a no try when its contentious at best.
The rule they changed is stupid (must regather with both hands) how does this apply when planting the ball with one hand?

Fucken dumb.
The entire 360 panel besides Rothfield the old clown thought it was a try.

Gus is right.

Gus is one of the main reasons the NRL changes the rules every other week. He should just shut up and **** off.
