Where are the wingers?

Why are we struggling to recruit any decent wingers? Apart from Yow Yeh we have had nothing coming through our ranks that is actually a top class talent. Surely a club of our stature should be attracting good young talent in that position or do players these days just not want to be specialist wingers anymore.

I also think we could attract somebody like Ryan Hall from Leeds, Burgess from Wigan would have been a good option too before he went to Sydney. Failing that, surely there must be some decent wingers with a bit of speed and something about them in ISC.

I'm going to watch as much English Super League as possible and try to scout a winger, a kicker, a hooker and a monster prop.

We've actually had some reasonable wingers and centres in recent times, we just haven't been able to hold onto them

Since 2011..

Israel Folau
Antonio Winterstein
Denan Kemp
Dane Gagai
Gerard Beale
Jharal Yow Yeh
Josh Hoffman

Matt Gillett did good in his stint at wing, perhaps we should use him.

He showed better finishing ability than Vidot and Maranta.

Oates has shown some good signs out on the wing. Pity Hook wasted him on the bench all last year. Kahu prbably should be on the wing but is a liability under a highball. (But if we're going to rule it on that alone we will have no one but Maranta).

James Roby and Chris Hill would fit the bill for hooker and prop, but i doubt either would come.

We had one of the best wingers in the comp come through our system. He plays centre for Gold Coast now.

We signed another one for this year, but for a different position too.

Looking at Newcastle's wingers hopefully Wayne can steal a few.

As for monster props. Mose masoa or however it's spelt well would work well in our pack.

I've wondered this lately. Every year there seems to be a couple of clubs that pull gun wingers out of thin air. Or we do that and lose them immediately. Winterstein had an amazing first year in '11 I think. Him and Yow Yeh taking cross-fields from Locky was so good but seemed a life time ago. When was the last time a winger caught a bomb or even a short cross-field chip and scored? Honestly can't remember Maranta ever doing it. Vidot? Nope. Dale? Nope. I think perhaps Oates in his awesome stint out wide maybe, but he's not a regular out there as such, so it doesn't really count.

I know sometimes there's not much choice other than bomb to the wings, but why are we using a tactic that hasn't worked in basically 3 seasons?

I think you're remembering Winterstein wrong. He was on the left while Folau kept Yow Yeh out of the side on the right. He joined the Cows in 11. He was as bad at defusing bombs as our current players too. He's improved a lot though

Apologies. It was 2009. an even longer lifetime ago. 14 tries. 2nd to Folau on 17. JYY on 9 from 14. That was a killer backline though being outside Hunt, Hodgo and Folau and to an extent Locky

re: defusing high balls, so long as they score more than they concede, I'm willing to live with it. It sounds foolish but better than one that never scores at all

I'd take Reece Robinson after last night. Not the best winger but he can kick goals and we are desperate for a goal kicker.

Why's that? Are they allergic to money and sunshine?

Roby has had a few offers to play NRL and turned them down. Just dont get the impression either would leave the north of England.
