not if he phones it in ... because there won't be a contract there for him to sign
If Hook told him don't worries buddy just look after your body for a year we don't care how you play.
All I'm saying is it is a possibility and if we have any chance to offload him I think we should take it. I don't hate him but we should have let him go last contract.

why? where's the benefit to us if we don't get a player because of it? keeping him and playing him in ISC all year (in case we need him) then allowing him to walk at seasons end is still a far far better option than allowing him to walk now and getting nothing in return.

the extra cap space freed up by granting Macca a release now does nothing for us if the money just sits in the bank

That would require Macca to 'do it on trust'. Nope, would not be likely given Macca's public declaration about certainty. Totally at odds.
People are full of contradictions.

We might have a secret plan for a last minute signing.
However, if it's out of Luke and McCullough he can stay but he did ask for a release from his contract if we won't extend his current one so if we don't extend it we should let him go. We owe him that.

What do we owe him exactly? He was no longer first choice so arranged for a gig in Newcastle which we released him to when it would have been in our best interest to keep him as depth. He then got injured and picked up his option and now he wants to go again.

I would take Brittain in a swap, he’s a junior of ours very serviceable gives us a bit of depth this year if Turps goes down

I know defence is a priority this year and I know Macca can help there but watching 7 news last night when they showed Macca passing from dummy half at training I’m on the release him side

Well if they want him, they can pay full price.

I'm also with @pagey, I'd prefer to keep our blokes that are off contract if we can and go all in on Grant instead of B.Smith. Aim for the best and make sure Harry knows whatever the Storm are offering, we'll beat it + far more chance at endorsements playing for the premier side in the NRL.

I think we would have enough cash left in the bank with macca gone for Smith, C Smith. Titans have no chance with their cap by my calcs, unless they somehow pay stupid unders by 400k.

He has given the Broncos some good years.......
.....um I think but anyway I don't want him stinking up the place. If he does stay for this year I'm ok with that too.

Titans also have a full roster according to Fox Sports. so they'd need to axe someone for Cam Smith

If they can offer him a future and agree to cover his salary, it's probably in everyone's interests to let him go.
Realistically his contract will not be renewed here. I hear the argument that letting him walk doesnt really help the club in the short term but if we held onto him only to leave in reserves for an occasional start you are really saying to rest of the club "look after yourselves because we won't".
We would be deliberately cutting his career short for the sake of a back up hooker or at best 1 season of first grade.
Hes a good player but he isn't streets ahead of Turpin if at all, and we have secured billy Walters that can cover the role this season and allow paix to develop.
Its his leadership that we are most desperate for, but that goes out the window if we shunt him in this anyway.
