Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2024

I wonder if that was part of Gould's script to make the "retirement" look more credible.

I would've thought it aligned more with Rose's script to promote upcoming fights.

Boxing and MMA promotion is becoming more like WWE and he needs a heel... TPJ hating the NRL and rugba leeeeg means he can sell matches against footy players (Lodge, etc.) or at worst he can get footy fans to tune in to his fights hoping to see the rugba leeg hater get knocked the **** out.

Mundine basically made a career out of the gimmick with people tuning in to see if the baby face could knock him out

This. I can't help but feel it's free promotion for his upcoming fights. Smokin Joe liking some comments has me concerned though

Smoothy is a great resigning. I will admit I am a fan, so there may be a slight bias but he has shown he is capable of nrl, and I would be happier for him to take the starting 9 if walters were to go down, as opposed to a rookie still adjusting to playing against men, and paix who just doesn't offer any starch in defence.

He is also amongst the best non-starting 9s, on base salary in the league.

He's good value at the moment. I haven't studied his history so hard to determine his ceiling. Its a fair succession plan for a key position in place of capable players to service the role. Not superstar stuff but being with the team until 25 means cohesion.

Looks like we've signed Bradman Best's younger brother Baxter unless this is an old post.

That's good news. Baxter would have only just turned 15, so you can't read a lot into it, but he scored the match winner in the Renouf GF and the Roosters were after him.

U/15s is about the time these players start popping up, so it'll be interesting to track his progress and how he handles the national championship. That's where the likes of Mam and Mozer first started to make some noise and an early indicator for future success.

If you look carefully you will see they signed him as a coach.

Into year nine at Ipswich next week. He was in a few development squads, Broncos, Titans and Roosters. But you can sign a player exclusively the year they turn 15.

The try he scored against Redcliffe High was long and strong in a final from fullback.

Roger is from Ipswich and Baxter’s grandparents are still there.

He’s a centre long term I think but fullback gets him four touches a set at schoolboy.

Not that I want him at all, but if I did, it's the offload that makes him so dangerous. Perhaps it needs to be a bit more controlled in it's use, but an offloadless TPJ is not a TPJ I would consider signing.

Offlaods in his own quarter too often to be a positive .

Absolutely nothing fishy about any of this.

Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton:

“Tevita parted ways with the Bulldogs on extremely good terms. We wish nothing but the best for Tevita and his family for their future.”

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but doesn't change the fact that on offloadless TPJ is not worth anything.
If signed, the club would want to work on his offloads, not remove them completely.

I think its a bad move. We got rid of him for a reason. He's just a poor mans Dave Taylor. People think something will click with him and he will suddenly realise his potential, but its not going to happen.
Even shit Dave Taylor off the bench on a small contract is a good buy.

TPJ for depth is great if you believe he will won’t get Haas and Walsh in trouble

Broncos aside, the dummy spit retirement to be a boxer story to get him off the bulldogs cap was some of the best wool pooling I’ve ever seen.

Got to applaud that
Maybe it's time for a potted timeline.

Broncos tell him he's overstayed his welcome:

Enter SBW, the whiteant in the wood pile:

I never liked those grapes anyway:
