So many ifs and buts and highly touted kids who never make it but if we earmark our spine as:

1. Walsh
6. Mam
7. Black
9. Mozer

It allows us to have succession planning and time these kids’ entry to first grade perfectly, which is something Kevvie is proving great at doing.

I get why the score would attract attention but if you watched the game you'd know that there is nothing the Bears can take out of that win.

Finals are this week, and the Bulls are not there. It was only two weeks ago the Bears lost to Ipswich.

If you take the goal kicking out, then Black's game was just average. I commented at the time watching the game he didn't even seem to touch the ball the first 25 minutes- he didn't need to. It was just two or three passes to make a break.

Look at his two tries, from the kick down field Kelly Donovan brings it back to past the 50, Black goes to dummy half and shifts it right for a break down the sideline by Kama- back to Donovan, inside to Black who scores. Black ran 5m and scores untouched.

Second try was a bit of innovation- dummies the kick just walks around the defender gives it Rakena- back to Black scores and again 5m untouched.

Really playing the Bulls the last round could be the worst thing to happen to the Bears. I bet Ben Linde won't even be wasting time looking at the game this week getting ready for Ipswich.

Black had a poor finals series last year and Wynnum were straight out, if Bears/Black bomb out this week no one will care about the thrashing of the Bulls.

Just further context, the Bulls had 16 players and have never won a Meninga game in their four seasons.

How old is this kid? I'll admit I watch zero games of football outside Broncos and State of Origin games these days, but once Reyno retires at the end of '25, we would be silly to be pinning our hopes on a then 20(?) year old.

At this point in time, we're not going to be signing a top tier half to replace him so I think we're better sticking within the system. Hang on to Jock who is proving to get better each game he plays and then blood the young blokes through when they are ready.

That`s the way I see it .
Jock gets a chance 1st . If he isn`t it , buy another half till Black gets his chance then ???

Jock has done a serviceable job where he has improved with each game with the team. Salary cap won't allow us to have a star in every position. So yeah he is first up and with Reyno getting injured alot we will know before Reyno retires if he is the guy or not.

I've backed Jock since the start and I'm just getting more confident the more game time he gets. He's a good bloke with enough talent do get us around the park and let the superstars do their thing, while also being maybe something a bit more than a mild threat himself.

There's not any other of the younger halves coming through that I'd rather have, I think the recruitment team have nailed it with him tbh. He's only going to get better.

TLDR ; Matty says Jock has impressed him .
Showed vids of Reece Walsh running similar lines to Turbo . Explained how Reynolds was making space for Reece .

But ... go ahead judge the book by it`s cover . Or in this case the vid by the thumbnail .

people acting like learning great things from the elite players is somehow a bad thing :P

His last two weeks has easily been his best and I firmly believe he needs to do less not more- particularly with his running. That doesn't mean not run or attack but pick the time and defender- Alf might only run four times a game but three of them would count.

The last two games he's found a lane and stayed in it. Kicked well and let the ball move not him and it's resulted in his two best games for the Broncos.

I found him too frantic before the last two weeks.

Honestly if Madden keeps playing like he's playing, expect a team like Titans/Cowboys to come sniffing.

The big upside to Jock is that with absolute studs like Ez and Walsh in the team, you just need to do the simple things well and get us around the park. Other upside is he doesn't come with the price tag that someone like Walker would which lets us keep our pack and backs.

I am all aboard the keep Jock train, and Black comes through when ready. Reyno hopefully stays on as halves coach in some capacity.

He also has a body fit for the NRL where as Sam Walker doesn't seem to have gotten his yet. Has to be one of the worst defending halves in the comp.

He can throw a nice pass when the time comes though .
In that vid above they highlight a catch and pass that leads up to Mariner scoring in the corner . Very nicely executed .
