KLein Ref.

A guy who according to his own boss, evidently doesn't know the rules enough that he needs another official with less seeable angles (hehe...pfft...haha as if this is true) to tell him what decision needs to be made> Noice one NRL.

He’ll have a direct line with Gee who can guide him through the match.

Maybe the more important question is who's in the bunker for the match??

They basically officiate the game now anyway... can tell when this happens because a random penalty gets blown or decision made well after the fact.

I think it's probably a good idea to have an experienced ref in charge of origin regardless because they will understand less gets looked at in that arena.

Adelaide not expected to sell out, Currently 41k sold out of 53k expecting 45k by kick off, more reason neutral games should be elsewhere.

Imo Perth, Melbourne and Auckland are the only options going forward.

Cows have apparently requested Dearden be released to play for them against Parra, but Billy has denied the request.

Showing the amateur hour that NRL is by having a guy sit on the pine for possibly 3 games when by right there's no real reason why he couldn't play for cows and then sit on the pine for Qld.

The duration between cows game tonight and origin is longer than the cows rd 14 game after origin (5 days vs 4 days)... so it's not a player welfare thing... especially when they're allowing players from origin to back up 2 days later to play for their club side

Meanwhile Campbell Graham likely plays for Souths. Very fair and consistent.

I live in Adelaide, and IMO it hasn't been strongly marketed - I think the NRL just expected it to sell out with travelling QLD and NSW fans, with no real effort

Perhaps our guys will breath a sigh of relief that it never happened to us as "Billy hates us and will do anything to stuff us up, like selecting Reece as 18th man and not releasing him".

It shows Billy does not care which club it effects. He's focused purely on what he sees is best for his Qld team. Good luck to him I hope he's ready for a cockroach onslaught of aggression as space cadet Fittler has made that pretty obvious that he intends to try and bash us out of the game.

Coaches should be naming 18th man from a side with the bye. Even if Slater wants Dearden as his 18th, just name him at 19 which allows him to play club, then name him at 18 on Wednesday.

That was NSW call, Graham told them I can't run until the weekend, and they said well you're not our 18th man then which is fair enough no point having an 18th man that can't train.

If he is right on the weekend that's not Souths fault.

I don't see how our 2,3,4,5 hold up well enough for 80 minutes to win this. There's concerns over their dropped bombs, new combinations and just plain old getting steamrolled 1 on 1 by Latrell and Turbo. Would love to be wrong!

The point is that Dearden needs to be ready to go and he's training as Cleary this week- He was the opposition half yesterday at training.

If he plays tonight- misses training today and tomorrow or picks up an injury what then?

Everyone changes to- why would you risk your 18th man for a Cowboys game stupid Slater.

The people running the NRL genuinely believe expansion and growth just means people from already established rugby league areas just travel elsewhere. It's Melbourne Storms entire thing, it's what is happening with Adelaide and it's going to be the case with Las Vegas. They'll just expect Aussies to travel and watch.

I swear if this is one of our home games, after giving up Suncorp for a soccer World Cup this year, I will be questioning my membership options. Especially if the price doesn't go down.

Outside of last year and this year the 18th, 19th, 20th, etc. have always been released back to their club for the weekend's fixtures... unless they are legitimate cover for a starting player under an injury cloud.

If your 18th man is so vital to the starting 17 then they should be in the team anyway or get permission from the club to keep him in the squad... if Dearden is legitimate cover for Munster being under an injury cloud... then fine, that's always been the case and Slater would rightly refuse to release him.

Origin teams have been fine utilising bye players or releasing players back to their club for how many years up until last year... why disrupt the actual NRL comp further than what they already do when it hasn't been an issue up until NRL needing an 18th man to be named.

Hynes sitting out 3 games last year because NSW have to name an 18th man, that didn't play a second of the entire origin series is ridiculous.

Why not have NSW and QLD name a full squad of 22 and then release 18-22 back to their clubs, like it's been for years, and if for some reason you're unlucky enough to lose all 5 of them to injury then that's just unlucky (but just bring another player in... like it would've been all the way up until last year). If everything goes to plan through to next Wednesday then Dearden won't play a second of actual footy and the origin series will continue on... like it always has.

NSW will be in the same position where they have to release their squad players back to club land as well, so it's still even on both sides.
