Are they seriously on hosting Olympics at Nathan spending billions without any legacy. Queensland will be a laughing stock as an Australian we should be embarrassed that smallest stadium in 100 years will be in Brisbane.

Don't understand spending $400k on a review and not take the recommendation.

Who would have thought it possible but Miles has come up with the only option worse than upgrading the Gabba.

His excuse for rejecting the report that he commissioned is completely BS. He said that he couldn't justify spending that sort of money when do many of us are doing it tough ... But he's still spending the same amount, he's just spreading it over 3 stadiums.

P.s. if he's so concerned about how tough we're doing it in terms of cost of living, hopefully he does something to negate the fact that SE QLD will be one of the only areas in the country to get an electricity price rise instead of a cut

They've made clear for a very long time that a new stadium will not be built in Victoria Park including the LNP council, and it's good they're all standing by this as they know it's not the right spot for a large stadium build.

Miles needs to grow a pair and tell everyone the Gabba is happening. How fucking embarassing to hold the Olympic opening and closing ceremony at Lang Park. Nimby's will ruin this city if they don't start getting told to **** off or die, or both.

All because a bunch of NIMBYs in the gabba, the lions and qld cricket had a whinge.

We'll now the lions won't get a fancy new stadium and they're sad about it.

Have they given a figure for the upgrade of QE2 or is it still just part of the overall cost of upgrading Lang Park, the gabba snd QE2?

Just move the Olympics to Canbera :)

The figures I've heard in the media are:

Gabba - $1 billion
QSAC - $1.6 billion
Lang Park - no figure mentioned yet.

The initial proposal to redevelop the Gabba was poorly done (like everything this Government touches) ... And I'm pretty sure that the biggest problems the sports teams had with it was the Government demanding that they fund a significant portion of a temporary stadium, no professional sporting team (or local council) in this country would accept this.

With or without the Olympics Gabba is not fit for purpose. The stadium in Perth costs 1.6B no one sure why Victoria Park costs so much

Seems to me like Victoria Park is the best option in terms of what would actually be delivered and it's legacy value.

Of course the option they've chosen is more expensive, delivers a worse facility and has little to no future value.

NIMBYs are the bane of Western Society, just imminent domain the *****.

Have a look at Sydney the Olympics Park area has been vital to sport in NSW. NSW RLcentre of excellence, Accor stadium hosted origins world cup games, grand finals, concerts like Taylor Swift. Gws play afl on that precinct, Easter show. Atp cup play tennis there, aquatic centre where many Olympics swimmer trained. All these benefits Sydneysiders still benefit from shame we won't experience that.

Although it took a while for it to be worth it. I remeber people complaining about its lack of use for a few years after the games. The best part of hosting it, was the upgrades to transport (particularly the trains)... and the general cleaning up of the city.

Really? Victoria Park was more expensive than upgrading the Gabba. They lose green space and the Gabba ends up being demolished anyway. The only public transport link that is close is the bus way. The Ekka station was going to be 20 minute walk away

Why not just demolish the Gabba and rebuild it for less then? Bus and train station right on the doorstep. Existing dining options on the doorstep too. Keeps the history of the Gabba stadium too.

At least with this new plan Lang Park and the Gabba get refurbished. QE2 is upgraded for future events and temporarily gets new stands.

Miles saw the broncos heritage jersey and unlocked his ANZ stadium memory.

QE2 has no busway, no train station and is on the intersection of the 2 worst roads on the entire southside.

From what I understand the proposed refurbishments to the Gabba are a short term fix at best, and it will require another, bigger refurbishment soon after anyway.

They should either be building a new Gabba or going with a whole new stadium. This plan is half-arsing it.

What is the Liberal party view on what should be done

I'm on the demolish and rebuild the Gabba train personally.

I'd like to see what they were proposing for Vic park tbh, The close proximity to the hospital would surely have been an issue?
