Take it with a grain of salt being reported from the mole in this week's RLW but apparently Gillett's management is look for a 700k+ figure, something the Broncos are unlikely to match. Ethan Lowe's been linked to the Broncos as a possible replacement should Gillett have to depart.

I certainly wouldn't be against us signing Ethan Lowe because i think he is a quality player ... but I would much rather keep Gillett, especially given his form. if the new cap does rise to the 10 or 11 million mark ... then 700k for a player of Gillett's quality is not over the top IMO

Will not get Lowe. Weve got his replacements. TPJ and Timu like Austin says. All preplanned.
Just like the Kodi and Macca situation..(Macca off contract in 2017, 1 year before a 5 million cap raise) Hey wheres 1910 Dobbo..no cap raise you reckon? Its about to go Off. Player Managers are about to cash in. Gillett is going. He is asking for 700k plus..
Watch Roosters, St George, Cronulla and Penrith all be big players. Either have big cap space or will have big cap space.

There's literally no scenario in which Kodi Nikorima is a first grade hooker (Not any time soon anyway), his service is occasionally rubbish and he can't reliably defend in the middle.

I'm pretty sure if Bennett wants Gillett he will stay though. 3rd party deals and all

I will walk around Australia backwards stark naked if the cap rises by 5 mill in one hit. It just simply wont
If Bennett wants Gillett to stay he will stay. He will find enough money and third partys to make him re-sign. We don't lose players we don't want to lose with Bennett at the helm.

Are the Roosters, St George, Cronulla and Penrith the only ones getting the supposed $5mm increase???

IF that is what happens, its not like we have already spent that money on the cap so won't be able to give Gillett a big upgrade.

You really going to compare a player that hadn't played a single NRL game to an aus and qld rep player?

you didn't specify a critertia to your statement ... you said flat out that "Bennett doesn't lose players he wants to keep" and Jayden Nikorima falls into that category.

besides it could be much harder to keep an Aussie/QLD rep than a player that hadn't played a single NRL game ... Gillett will be able to bargain from a much stronger position...

Not really
all it comes down to win gillett is money
with nikorima it was not only about money it was about first team opportunities and who he was stuck behind
bennett would not have been able to guarantee that

Absolutely this. Ash Taylor was in the same position. Who's keeping Gillett from a top-17 spot? Oh right.

He's not going anywhere.

Sorry, that's simply not true. If he wanted to keep him, he would have. But he obviously valued Hunt/Milford more (and so do I) and Jayden didn't want an apprenticeship on the bench when getting that would only mean he's keeping his own brother out of first grade. Ash Taylor is the same story, he's a fabulous player for his age, but he's not worth getting Hunt or Milford out of the team, and he deserves an opportunity as a starting halfback elsewhere.
