Even if Milford is our best player this year I don't think we should be spending $1m to re-sign him, $750K sounds about right for what he offers. If that's not acceptable for him I'm sure there's a Sydney club that'll talk themselves in to a 5 year, $6m deal like they did with Hunt.

If we're going to be spending $1m on a half it should be someone who's won premierships and is still in their prime (Which rules out everyone except DCE & Keary imo)
Keary would definitely be an interesting prospect. The Roosters will almost certainly want to keep him and he's obviously going to attract plenty of interest from elsewhere, but with Milford off our books, we'd at least be in the right ball park, especially once you factor in the lower cost of living in Brisbane vs Sydney.

He's obviously from Ipswich and by the end of 2021 the Roosters will have Flanagan settled in and Walker coming on to their NRL radar was well for a starting spot.

That's where Milford starts to struggle. Sure, he's one of our best players. But when you consider that what he's getting paid could probably buy you Luke Keary, it starts to make Milford's value proposition look pretty poor.

Yeah when you start thinking Milf + Bird + change, probably gets you somewhere near Keary + Ponga... you start to think we are building a war chest for something

Ponga
Keary
Croft

yes the criminally underrated Milford. I wouldn’t imagine he’ll get a pay rise but I’d expect us to maintain his current rate.
I just thought it a bit rich to say we could build a team around Dearden or Croft but not include Milf.

Fair point about the two halfbacks. I can concede that your argument is far stronger. That said, I don't think you can justify building a team around Milf, the club (and your favourite coach) have spent the last four years trying to do it and it hasn't worked. So feel free to remove the two young halfbacks but certainly don't add the million dollar one either, he isn't worth that at all, not even close.

Not overly keen on rehashing this argument again but our old coach extracted a lot more value out of Milf than our current one was able to.

We will need to throw the bank at Keary and Ponga to get them out of their clubs because you can believe their respective clubs will do the same to keep them. Ponga will extract 1.5m out of the knights for his next contract because they are rubbish without him and Keary has a strong team around him which makes his life a hell of a lot easier to play footy and get well paid in the process.

Not 100% about that claim fella. He didn't extract much the past 3 years apart from the odd flash of brilliance here and there.

Let's give Seibs a chance to see what he can do in 2020. Milf also needs to contribute by having a better attitude towards his preparation, as others here have noted.

How many more head knocks can Keary get before he gets retired?

Was more pointing out that we could have about $3m+ to go into the market for positions we need and some possible targets that are coming off contract in and around that time... not to mention Ponga and Keary are both queenslanders so there is some incentive of them moving.

If they want ridiculous money we don't have to buy them we just move onto the next target.

Milf - $1m
Bird - $1m
Darius - $600k
Macca - $400k
Kahu - $400k

I still think we keep a watchful eye on the Drinkwater situation up north. If he cannot crack the run on 13, he might look to get out prior to 30 June. If we can also move on one of our problematic contracts, it might be a possibility.

Let's see how good Keary is on a consistent basis now Cronk isn't there directing the team around. He controlled that whole side, even when playing badly or in the grand final when he was injured.

Any thoughts on Zac Lomax? I'm a big fan of his and although he played centre for the Drag Queens this year, he wants to be a fullback. Got speed to burn, strong runner, agile. I think he's better than Drinkwater. Off contract next year too.

We dont, a bit of our money is tied up in contracts going up in value.

Id say we have about 1.2-1.5 to play with maximum.

Anyone know where Milford has been training? Heard he could still be fullback? I'd rather him back at 6.

Yeah, I don't think we have as much money as people think when Boyd and Macca finish up. I think we have probably have/will spend that cash on upgrades and retention of our up and coming players. To get some savings we would need to get them off the books before the end of the contract.

We won't have the money for him. In any case, I would prefer that we signed his girlfriend

Gee I wished we signed him last year. I cannot understand why Melbourne let him go. If I was him I would go back there now Croft has left and play in the halves. I would certainly take him if he was on offer.
