Strongly disagree. Hunt has no brain. He shouldn't ever wear a 7 or be in charge of crucial decisions.

Sure you can blame it on Mann for not passing, but he's played like 50 odd games, if you're relying on a new 5/8 to make the right pass with a minute to go in sudden death, without getting a message to him first, then he's even more of an idiot than I thought.

And how do you know the message wasn't even sent to Mann?

A kick up-field was the wrong option, they weren't going to be able to get in position to get a chance at field goal. Souths had the momentum and time was against them. They had to take their chance and take advantage of the numbers they had. They weren't going to last in extra time. They were out on their feet.

The proof is in how it played out. Clearly he didn't communicate it very well. No it wasn't the wrong option, it wasn't about them getting a chance at a field goal, it was about not giving Reynolds a golden chance to win the game when it's obvious he kicks field goals like it's training.

The key players have to pull off the big moments. Hunt is a key player, their marquee player, and just choked because either a) he's dumb as ****, or b) he's too much of a coward to attempt a field goal, or heck c) he's so inept and/or lazy that he can't train to slot field goals like just about every other halfback can do with ease.

The Dragons had to go for the high risk play. They had injuries and a reduced bench, fatigue was setting in, they weren't going to last another 10 minutes against Souths with the momentum Souths had. Apart from Frizell's strip, they were hardly in an attacking position and were struggling to even get out of their end.

Spot on.

He's shit. Obviously we suffered this season without him because he was our HB for ages, but we'll adapt either the season coming or the season after whilst the Drags will have to suffer seasons worse than the one they've just had for the foreseeable future. Remember that they had virtually no injuries until after Origin, even then they only lost PV for the season and Widdop for a few weeks. They have shocking depth, which isn't surprising when you pay a bloke like Hunt over a mil.

And yet everyone else knew the plan. But somehow Mann not passing means Hunt didn't communicate well despite everyone else knowing what was going on. Mann just fucked up.

They were on their own 30. You watched the game, you saw Hunt's long kicking that night. The Rabbitohs were getting great field position. We're not talking about a Cronk or a Thurston that can put a ball deep in the opposition's half from that far out. The Rabbitohs were getting another great opportunity to win the game anyway. The Dragons were fucked, the Rabbitohs forwards especially Cook were carving them up and they would have ended up in field goal position. They couldn't stop the Rabbitohs roll-on and another 10 minutes of that was just going to result in the Rabbitohs running over the top of them. They had to go for an all or nothing play.

It looked like Mann was running the lead line for Duffy out the back, like someone said earlier even if it was the right call to run it on the last Hunt chose the wrong man to give it to.

How will we adapt if we don't have a good halfback ourselves? Dragons look better placed than us for next year.

Whilst we don't have a good halfback we wont have the results everyone wants.

Souffs definitely need Inglis to play, Manu has been in top form, and will probably get even more ball with Mitchell out.

How can they play better than they did in the first ten weeks of this season? We already know their absolute best footy, we don't know Brisbane's. For starters, our D is going to improve tenfold with Gillett, Bird, and Su'a in the side, and our middle is going to improve with TPJ back in there. We still finished above them this season with millions of dollars sitting on the sideline for a huge chunk of the year.

Hunt is just as likely to win them a comp at 7 as Niko, AKA not at all.

"only lost PV for the season" - because it's only a minor inconvenience when you lose your best prop for the season.

I think you forgot to mention Aitken and Macdonald who both time on the sidelines - I think Aitken is still out?
The Widdop thing shouldn't be underestimated either, he's only one of the best halves in the competition.

Doesn't seem to matter what thread you post on mate, you always seem to harp back to how rough our injuries were and how virtually no other team in the competition would have made it to finals footy with our injuries. It's nonsense. Maybe give it a rest and focus on why our squad wasn't good enough - like the clear weaknesses in the spine.

Agree that the kick was the right option but there was space out wide.
Mann running a line fucked it all up because he got in the way with the outside backs too flat too adjust expecting a kick.
Poor old Hunt, I do feel for him because anything good he achieved this year is wiped out by those 2 big moment plays that turned to shit .
He is learning some tough lessons but he is good enough to come out the other side provided he can shut out the social media naysayers delighting in his failures.

He won't come out the other side until he and whatever club he is playing for admits he is not a halfback and he stops trying to be one.
