Manly have been fined $750,000 for salary cap breaches with $250,000 suspended if the club undertakes appropriate governance changes to ensure there is no repeat of the breaches.

In addition to that, they will also have a $660,000 penalty applied to their salary cap for 2018 and 2019. The NRL have also suspended the registration of two officials and banned them for 12 months.

Where is the loss of points?

Bob Fulton resigned before they could do anything to him. But Andrew Gee is the devil incarnate.

So how are the players and their managers getting away with it? Will it be claimed that they did not know that there was cheating going on, and that they were told that their 3rd party deals were all above board and the club would declare them? I was under the impression that the contract sent to the NRL had to disclose all 3rd party agreements, whether they were guaranteed by the club or not, and the players and their agents had to sign those contracts?

So the current Roosters CEO has been suspended for 9 months for Manly's breach. He was Manly's boss during the rorting.

Hmmm....

So Greenberg has said that the reason Manly are not losing any points is because their roster for 2018 is under the cap.

He copped questions about that after the Eels in 2016 were docked points, but they were over the cap at the time.

Agree completely. Players and managers should have to send a seperate copy of all contracts they sign to NRL.

That way clear proof if they are complicit with breaches. If players and managers start getting suspended and large fines then discourage a lot.

The whole principle of a hard cap is fundamentally flawed and don’t mind legal but clever ways to skirt it but cheating is another matter. That’s the moral issue.

PR wise worst thing is if dumb enough to get caught... buts it Manly so no big deal media will let it blow over in a day or two.

it fucking stinks, its the same with the parra situation. the integrity unit and the commission have all the data and info to really nail all involved however they are reluctant to do so as certain player agents have threatened to out certain high level nrl officials for their past dealings and history.
the nrl is a modern day mafia, too many hands and noses in the trough to really fix anything as the dotted line runs too deep.

NRL 360 will still manage to devote half of tonights program to how the Tigers got ripped off and how much of a **** Lodge is. During the discussions on this, it will be implied that we're cheating the cap being a one team town etc and the unfair advantages that nets us. Andrew Gee will also be brought up.

Paul Kent will have an exclusive from an unnamed source that Wayne Bennett hangs around schools in the morning and steals kids lunch money.

Masterful timing with releasing the news.

Yep, absolutely brilliant. This is a massive fine but no points lost, released two a half months after Manly having only 'one week' to reply and allowing them to sign a player (Thompson) while the matter was being investigated. The NRL would be in love with Steve Smith and David Warner right now because this news and its related inconsistency is huge but it will barely make the sport section on most websites / newspapers today.

So, to summarise, not only do the NRL have the power to stamp out the cheating players, agents, and officials, but they already have the evidence they need to do so.

But they refuse to act on it, because NRL officials are either complicit in the cheating, or are being blackmailed by those who know their dirty secrets, and are more interested in saving their own arses than doing their actual job.

Sounds great.

How does a player have no knowledge that the club are rorting the cap to keep him?

What do they think that extra money is?

Reportedly, the rorting was almost as bad as Storm's, but they just didn't win any premierships during those years.

But surely the punishment could be more severe..
