Big Ears:

- "Can't fault the effort"
- Had great defense
- Without saying his name, singled out Ilias MULTIPLE times
- Reporter trying to get Haas suspended for getting a hurt knee or something - this was weird
- "Gotta get our stuff right as we're a very good side as we showed tonight in patches"
- Murray: "We defended our errors really well"
JD is so over-rated, dude needs to shut the **** up. Also if you are going to announce what a weak defender Mam is and that you are going to target him all night you might want to make sure you actually get through him.

Thank **** we didn’t listen to Wayne and his plan to parachute big ears into the head role after him.

I’ve always been of the opinion the live game thread should be kept open slightly longer and THIS IS WHY. This is god tier forum posting and got me cackling.

I once knew a guy called Nicholas Lister and every time I saw his name this song would bounce around my head.

The Good:
  • Cobbo, has learnt from last match and had a great game. Kudos to him. I had doubts he would learn quickly.
  • Baker, solid role - did what was needed. Good value.
  • Carrigan, machine like normal.
  • Arthars, clinical and simple.
  • Mariner, bright future for this man.

The bad:
  • Marty needs to calm down with the offloads. Its almost like he has forgotten he is a big strong unit, focus on meters forward rather than second phase will bring huge benefits. If his eye isn't on the receiver - hold it!
  • Hetherington had a shocker.
  • Smoothy was clunky and his passes were either forward or wide. This killed early set momentum early in second half.
  • Reynolds, knee doesn't look good. Put him on ice.

To Change:
  • Arthars to FB. Mariner possibly later in season depending on Reynolds recovery. Oates to Wing.
  • Walsh to 7. Its earlier than expected, but his play in the line tonight showed he can do the job. It doesn't matter on the number, but he has strike. All that's needed for him to be in the halves is a calming of excitement in pressure moments. Its almost a Lockyer late career situation. He can do the job - but only with mam taking more role of game management to let him play free.
  • We still need another impact backrower.....Thin on the edges with rotation. Gives me Melbourne 2023 vibes.
Walsh to 7... why on earth would you move the best FB in the game to 7?

even though Mam is the hardest hitting half in the game by a country mile.

Definitely deserved more love

I was worried about his defence in the centres but he’s found his place. He was outstanding and made it look easy.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see him picked at centre for Origin.
Souths were fucking terrible and we lost round one… let’s not get a boner
Just yet

Again… we did do well immediately post Wayne didn’t we…

Cobbo was great defensively tonight. Loved seeing that. It was the biggest concern with him going to centre but read the game and made the right decisions.

Really good seeing staggs so involved in the first half but he needs to keep that up through the game he was quiet in the second half.

Piakura had a great outing. We need to use him close to the tryline because his lines and late footwork are so good if you can get him 1 on 1 on into a sliding defensive line he will pole through every time.

Kobe didn't have a great night, but I also can't understand why we are trying to make him a bash and barge prop. He should never be taking hitups off the kickoff, he is for line running, leg speed and tightening defence.

Deine was good again. I think both wingers were a bit quite getting our sets started. But boy there is something there. His speed is effortless really want to see him stretch right out.

Hookers were a bit average, honestly looks like too many players are over calling each other. The hierarchy and game plan managers need to sort this out quick smart.

Patty started slow but got through a mountain of work, if he wasn't in the middle we probably lose. But way too many minutes.

Payne was good as usual. I don't like the patty to Payne short ball flat and sliding. Through the middle straight it's good but on the slide I don't like it. Every team gang of Ackles Payne now and his strength is front on.

Baker, although reasonably short stint was.probably our best bench. Best part of his game is his play the ball, it is incredibly quick and we really need to plan on using that.

The game overall I hate to say it but I think it was lucky that the souths were worse than us. We need to sort out basics fast for next week.

  • ***Assuming Reynolds is injured***
No need to move Walsh to 7, if Reyno is gone he will be shuffling that 1/7 role during the game anyway, don't even be surprised if he is the main kicker.

I came into a lot of the post game threads last year absolutely rip roaring horny as for our fellas but this game feels like I wasn’t in the mood but put one in the back of the net so was still pleased but won’t go into the bank for future reference.
