And as good as Herbie is, and he is very good, Mariner looks like he has the ability to go past him (not that he necessarily will but he has all the tools any player could ask for).

I will miss Herbie and I do wish he'd have stayed, but Staggs' recent form has definitely lessened the sting. That, and our amazing depth there.

Oates metres out of our end are still such an asset. We had a few sets in a row where we were only got to our 40m, we get to our 50m with Oates. Doesn't sound like a big difference but against the panthers and in finals it's huge to be able to wrestle some momentum back.

Absolutely this. There were a few periods where we were struggling to get off our line, and those are the times Corey more often than not takes a hard run, makes ten or fifteen metres, gets a quick play the ball, and gets us moving.

You lose a bit with his speed and long range scoring ability, but he's just as good as Mariner close to the line.

Not sure if anyone in this thread has congratulated Payne on a terrific 100 game milestone as well as our captain reaching the phenomenal tally of 1000 goals.

Two brilliant achievements that were almost overshadowed by our 'get square' scoreline.

Is it asking too much to hope the Eels scrape into the 8 so we can meet them again and notch up 60?

Selwyn not charged for the most benign semblance of a "crusher" you'll ever see.
Penalty though... well a penalty within the time it took for Bryce to sit and contemplate how far he was willing to go with feigning a sore neck.

Definitely an NRL penalty in the Vlando ball era... maybe a perfect example of it

I'm fine with it being a penalty, albeit a weak one, and 100% agree with him being put on report. That's just delegating the video scrubbing job to the MRC so it doesn't hold up the game. The stink would've come if he'd have sent him to the bin for it.

I'm fine with it being a penalty... just find it funny that they all know it's a charade.

I don't think anyone involved wants to call it a penalty, but they all have to go through the motions to get there

Bryce: "so we doing this or you just gonna call the penalty?"

I haven't watched it again, but at the time I thought it looked weak and didn't even consider he'd get charged. Not sure what you can do with these borderline milks. I'm only surprised more players don't contrive strips and head highs. If I even detected a defender's hand on the ball when I was being gang tackled I'd be letting the fucker go every time.

Our mission is to support Canberra today to have them beat the Storm and then for us to beat them in the last round, hopefully knocking them out of the top four. The benefits are obvious, we hopefully do not have to play them again and if we do, it is in the prelim final and they are knocked around from all of the games to get to that game.

Paps 80 minutes, 16 points, 19 runs, 127m, one line break, two line breaks assists, two try assists, six tackle breaks, forced a drop out and three dummy half runs.

Certainly, can't fault his involvement in 120 minutes back.

My pre-contact metres crusade continues, I heard Freddie mentioned it today.

Broncos 7.13m pre line.
Eels 6.40m pre line.

Difference is 140m Broncos took off the Eels with line speed and control of tackles.

The metres ?
Is that over the advantage line ? Or from where they receive the ball ?

Reynolds:

“Reece and Ezra are both young and enthusiastic. It keeps me young out there, too. Whatever I ask Ezra to do he does it. I try and get him the ball in open space. We all know what a talent he is. Ezra and Reece are quite similar. They see the game in a different way to most. It is my job to create a bit of space for them and watch them do their magic. It is something I can’t do. I wish I could. I love it. They want to learn and get better and I can pass a bit of knowledge onto them and help them get better.”
“Inglis and Walsh are two very different players, with size difference and attributes, but Walsh has got it all. It is my job on the field to keep him calm and composed and cut those errors out. If we can get him down to one error a game or none that would be terrific. You’ve seen what he can do. Five line break assists is special when he has got the ball. It is just about minimising the errors in his game. He is still learning his trade and competing on every play. It is my job and the coach’s job to try and help him get that out of his game.”

Badel:

"The maligned Walters has played every game so far this season and produced arguably the finest performance of his career with a two-try effort against the Eels, including a brilliant solo try showcasing two lethal left-foot steps."

Billy's dad:

"Billy has improved since arriving at the club This year was his first pre-season in the No.9. He has got better every week and we are very fortunate that we have great depth with Tyson Smoothy and Cory Paix can’t even get a jersey at the moment."

A paragraph full to the brim with praise and you choose to underline that part, as if it proves something.
