It’s all to pump up the dolphins really. The nrl love using us to promote the game

I'm not sure it is just for them. I think its all part of this NRL/media driven forced rivalry and the clubs are involved in it as well. They should just let the thing evolve organically like it has in football. You simply cant manufacture something like this.

lol at Walsh trashing the dragons in tv small talk segment on the Nerang roosters 😂

If people go by the usual marking matrix for what constitutes a good game for a prop ... Which they won't in this case ... Then Baker actually had a good game.

Baker played 32 minutes.
Has 8 runs for 87m (AVG 10.1m per run)
26 tackles, missing 1

How good was it to see oates storming down the field and dispensing another fullback. I know it was all for nothing but still good to see the big fella in space.

Patty was as usual the rock of our team. We desperately need Mariner back as Oates after that display is now a 17. Madden still hasn't done anything to show that he is a 7 after Reynolds. Willison had another great game and is that big body in the middle of the field that just seems to hurt the opposition whether it's in attack or defence. Watching Hetherington cut down Nicholls was just a joy to watch.

Those unforced errors will crucify us against the good teams and we really missed Reynolds organising our attack. Adam Gee made some baffling decisions tonight and handed Redcliffe a 7-1 penalty which really kept Redcliffe in it.

Willison, the Dolphins were making him make repeat efforts but he was making 2 & 3 consecutive tackles and helping dominate every one of them. He is way too raw to be a starter but he is the perfect impact middle and I was surprised how comfortable he seemed even after decent minutes.

And Hetherington is such a gritty no-nonsense footballer. He is way behind the stars in the talent stakes but makes up for it with effort and technique. His awkward runs tire out the middles and in defence he just axes fuckers.

Staggs is a very solid Defender these days, his jams still might be an issue but overall nothing gets through him.

A year or two ago we were calling for him to get more involved, the end of last season and even more so this season he has improved out of sight. I don't care if he's not barging through 3 defenders to score, if he keeps taking those tough carries and winning the rucks for us he is doing a great job for the team, especially while we're missing Haas.

Yeah, he wasn't that bad. Silly penalty early and threw a sort of silly pass, but more on Billy not paying attention. He had some tough carries early on and got involved. Willison smashed him though, playing similar minutes.

I dont think we actually did much wrong in a lot of ways, but we didnt do much right either. Too many simple errors, and our discipline was way off. Need to respect the footy more.
We're back to the first half of last year with some of our spine thinking every half chance is a reason to go for the low percentage play.

As much as I love Oates, Bennett was drooling once he was selected as wing and good old dropsy dick fingers delivered on queue. He's like that slow old 82 hilux ute that keeps turning up with solid carries - but his hands have been horrid for years. Tonight, his biggest contribution was destorying the hammer's hamstring - which actually probably gave us the edge to be fair, but that was bad luck for Hammer, nothing more. Oatsey put down bombs, wasn't in position for 2 potential tries, was too far in field for another and just ever so barely got to the try he scored. Defensively, he got caught out of position a few times and his actions directly contributed to two tries against us tonight.

He might be able to service a backup role off the bench for the second row, but he doesn't have the hands, defensive chops or speed to handle a wing role any longer and hasn't looked even half servicable there since Drinky broke his jaw which is a terrible shame. He had a horror run of injuries last year, but the games he did play after he came back from his jaw - he was equally as terrible as tonight.

Most of the team made errors tonight though so it's hard to be too tough on just Oates as there were lots of players deserving an absolute rocket after tonight - putrid handling all round. Giving away 8 penalties and 17 errors. Any half decent team takes that kind of display and puts 50 on us. Thankfully they were hot trash.
