POST GAME [Round 9, 2024] Broncos vs Roosters

They have plenty of experience though across the board. We dont. Even though some of our players have played plenty of games they still arent as battle hardend as say the storm were.

I do acknowledge there experience but it’s their systems that allow them to weather adversity better than others. We don’t have good systems and rely way too much way too often on freakish play

One bright spot for me. The two restarts after our two second half tries, Baker, Piakura and Willison got us rolling. Not Haas or Carrigan. The depth we have in the forwards is still there. We get some luck with injuries, we have a pack that can dominate and give Ez and Walsh and Madden room to operate.

We can still give this thing a shake.

We got what we deserved, results-wise. You can't lose the ball on first or second play in good ball positions and hope to beat the better sides.

If we respect the pill in the first half and build pressure it's a different second half completely.

One day we'll realise we can't win a comp by playing razzle dazzle for 20 minutes. Came close last year but the good teams will work us out.

I hope this is the game where Reece learns about holding the pass and taking the tackle. Same with Ezra.

I get it, they're still super inexperienced young players and we have to expect nights like that. It's just disappointing as I've seen Reece play Origin and make 0 errors, so he has it in him.

Anyway, season's not over, we'll be right in the mix, maybe not top 4 but we'll be a team that everyone will not want to play in crunch games.

One positive out of the game though not Bronco related. I'll bet that Slater noticed how much pace Teddy has lost when Ezra ran around him and would be instructing any outside back to take on Teddy for speed if they make a break during Origin.

Not sure what was worse, watching our capitulation or listening to nines NSW commentators describing it. **** I hate Andrew Johns.

Wasn't much better on fox, first (and last) time I didn't have the TV muted as well

Disappointing effort from the Broncos. They had been very patchy the previous few weeks but with a full-strength line-up they had every reason to assert themselves over the Roosters. Instead they played loose and effectively messed around and found out in the most brutal way possible.

The issue is the Broncos play a high risk high reward style that often leads to patchy performances. We saw it tonight and they were actually on their way to taking a lead until a forced Walsh pass led to a predictible drop from Riki. They live and die by the sword and by the time they rarely work for the quick play the ball which is such a vital part of the modern game.

We saw it tonight from the Roosters, Tedesco half-break, draws in Walsh and Reynolds. Walsh goes back to cover the kick, Crichton realises he's only got one marker and scores an incredibly soft try that completely changed the game.

I can't blame anyone for writing the season off. 0-4 against the quality teams and by rights if the Broncos were a serious team they would have won it easy. To lose 40-18 is a reflection of where they're at and it would take a massive effort to turn things around from here.

I think the way he is, he just needs a few games. He was shaky in his first one back but then was much better after that.

Diabolical, unlucky, erratic, manic, dumb and that was just the first half. Seeing them pass/kick at the point of being tackled was killing me. Jesse and Arey all the best to you both for a smooth recovery. Can Reynolds get through another season for us I think is a serious question now. All the talk about Roosters can get stuffed, the broncos fell apart that’s why the score is what it is. Have hope though guys. This is a young squad we have to stay behind them and support them.

We will win over 70% of our games without Reynolds. Nothing will help Walsh and Mam mature more than playing without Reynolds. This team has got this. Yeah they showed up with an ordinary mindset and got pumped but they’ll bounce back from it into an even better football team.

We did do a little better in that 2nd half. Mam and Walsh were clicking.

That Reynolds injury, the sin bin, and the Mam HIA was just killed it for us (that and the 1st half).

Mam's HIA was the killer punch.....

I think we could do with trying to find an experienced back tbh to add to the squad now. IIRC Del is injured so he's a loss as he is fairly solid.

I feel like this is karma for Arey saying we don’t need walker. I didn’t want to comment on his comments but I felt like it was extremely arrogant and we haven’t been good this year, he’s also missed a chunk of a very early season and now looks gone.

We kinda do need walker…..

Walker was never coming to us.
