Having the try awarded was the absolute punishment there.

A joke really, but no the Dragons are the ones who get screwed by refs. [icon_shady

Either Thruston gets rubbed out of the game, or he gets off and NSW can say that "it happens both ways"... Farkwits! [icon_non

Yeah, but still, he never looks like he was doing anything but watching the ball carrier.

If he had any idea where he was running surely he makes provisions to ensure he stays upright as well. You don't fall over if you can help it.

and he didnt put his arms up to protect himself or drop a shoulder so he clearly didnt see the ref in time

It's a rort, I've lost count of the amount of players I've seen physically SHOVE or PUSH a ref. As you say, Thurston did none of that. Simply ran straight into him whilst mainting his normal running action.

Re: Uh Oh - Thurston could miss origin

In fact, watch it on the angle from behind. Keep an eye on the ball carrier and on Thurston, and imagine he's looking direct at the ball carrier (Mateo). Trace the angle and the first moment he'd see the referee would be a fraction before he hits him. No time to react.

I reckon it'd just take a lawyer and a human movements expert or even optometrist to explain field of vision etc and show Thurston couldn't have seen the referee in time to change direction.

Remember when Carl Webb scored a try for us years ago when he ran and knocked a ref over because he was in the way? This is so much softer.

Re: Uh Oh - Thurston could miss origin

after watching it, he'll be gone from origin 3 no doubt.

should he be? no.
should he even be charged? no

but this is a Queensland star player, its origin time, its a decider, the NRL wants the blues to win......he'll be gone for sure.

The fact that's he's even been charged is ridiculous in itself.

Re: Uh Oh - Thurston could miss origin

If he gets done for that it is a joke. The refs can't disappear but he changes direction about 3 or four times and ends up stopping in JT's running line. JT is chasing and can't stop and well probably didn't see him until the last moment as Coxy said.

Edit:
IMO this is no different to William Zillman hitting the ref in Round 1.

Was Zillman charged?

Thursto's best defence would be that even Rocky thinks it's a non-issue!!!
