It was always gonna be tough to win a banana themed rugby league match so I'm not reading too much into the result. We'll be right.

They've looked beatable most of this season. Even the Dragons and Titans stuck with them over the last two weeks. I don't think last night had any real bearing on that.

We could still win it, plus we've won the GF without having won it it too. No big deal.
This is why i love BHQ.

Posters with the ability to turn my pessimism into optimism.

So many doomers lol. Last night means jack shit. The boys will fire up and we will destroy everyone. Walsh, reyno, mam, patty and Payne masterclass incoming.

As if losing last night was not bad enough, coming on here and hearing some of the gloom and doom merchants makes a wee bit harder to take. The grubs had experience in the positions that counted last night. Our halves were clunky at best and obviously did not know how to exploit a 12 man line up for 10 minutes.
I don't know about gloom and doom. We all know both clubs fielded a seconds team. We all know we fielded the weaker one. And we all know we lost (yet again). But we all hope our firsts team can progress through the finals regardless. The whole experience was thorougly dickless and left a bad taste.

For me there were a few slightly worrying takeaways that probably don't amount to a whole lot:

1. Our backs depth might not be as strong as I imagined. I think all the players could individually plug a gap but none looked like Kevvie has been holding them back from being selected. I can't see Pereira getting renewed.
2. We looked by far the better team in the opening 20. And then we got gassed. By the end we looked the weaker side.
3. Madden has a handy boot, and inside Mam might get the job done, but neither he nor Rogers are looking like our next generation of playmakers. It's all looking a bit Brodie Croft.
4. I'm not as down on our three backup hookers as many here are, but again none set the world on fire. Mozer is probably ready but he didn't press his case hard enough to oust Smoothy. Neither did Paix.
5. Which leads to the bench: Grant's ability to play 80 means Melbourne have the luxury of Papenhuyzen from the interchange. We don't have anyone of that calibre outside our 13, and we're a long way off being able to inject a world class back from the bench. We have Smoothy or Walters for spark.
6. To add insult, that dancing kid is now Melbourne's third ranked fullback after Meaney and Papenhuyzen. Sailor was probably our best, but he wasn't as impressive as those two. We won't see the kid again this season. Nor Sailor, probably.
7. As our most senior player, who is vying for a pay upgrade, Oates did not rise to the occasion.
8. Piakura belongs in our top 17. **** knows what he'll be charged with and whether he'll be available. It would be handy to have Willison too.
9. Te Kura should've come on with Mozer to try their routine in first grade. We were robbed of that. And for what?

Going on this logic, what happens if we went in with out A team and still lost?
It’s such ridiculous reasoning. Like you say if we lose anyway it would absolutely destroy our confidence.

I mean if people want to play scenarios here are some scenarios.

We field a much better side and lose anyway - confidence destroyed and the hurdle of the Storm is even higher

We win last night with that team - good, but it means nothing both teams were unrecognisable

We field a stronger team and win - Concerning for the Broncos as they only narrowly one against an unrecognisable Storm side

We play our stars and one or two are injured/suspended/concussed - This was a nothing game, really immature from Kevvie and finals series in tatters. FFS as it was with the limited better guys we played 2 guys that probably make the bench are most likely out of the finals through injury and suspension.

Best scenario:

We field a stronger team than last night. We beat the Storm and win the minor premiership. That goes down in the forever records.

It's a bit like taking the two. You know it's risking a bigger paycheck, but it's easy money.

People saying Melbourne are beatable because of last night - that was their B team too ffs.

A reminder: we rested players to avoid 11 day concussions, injuries & suspensions. Considering we came out of last night with 2 players likely out next week, Kev is vindicated. Could you imagine if Walsh or Payne’s legs were twisted off too? There’d be hysteria against Kev for naming them (obviously there won’t be a word for the storm doing the twisting)

Storm were always resting players, we didn't need to play Walsh and Haas. We didn't need to rest everyone, though.

Herbie and Capewell, we have the depth to cover for them.

he’s just gotten slower in 4 months?
He looked slow months ago too .
But he`s a club legend , had his best year for years last year , should of played Origin ,leading try scorer . blah , blah , blah .

Couldn't care less about that result, but i'd be picking Arthurs over Oates.

Piakura is annoying. I think he would've been OK for next week with the first two reports, but the third was quite forceful and to the head.

it wasn't long after Paix come on...... we went to shit.

Paix got run right over in the middle of the ruck one time .
Looked bad .
Bill , Mozer [ who got lazy tackling that led to an offload and try ] and Smoothy are all miles ahead of him now . As we know Kevvie is about defence first .

Maybe this will be the suspension he needs to have.

Can someone please tell me why Oates try was disallowed at the end,
Rogers throws the pass on the line .
Oates catches it in front of the line . Trigonometry calculations say the ball was forward out the hands . LOL .
