The type of sledging which is all fun and games is calling a player a skirt because they didn’t want to hit the ball up.

This slur is no where near okay.

No mate, I'm trying to get you past this obsession with race and broaden it to being nice to others. As if everyone hasn't had this topic browbeaten into them by now.
But why? This topic is about someone being racist to Mam. Trying to dilute the current situation to an issue about "we shouldnt say names" seems to communicate that you think it's all on the same level.

Well this selective outrage over classes of insults is a slippery slope. What happens when Ezra is teased about being a crybaby, called sookybubba or something? And he sure as **** will be.

Should that also be banned? Or is everything that hasn't become a political trope given a free pass? Can you call someone a fat ****, a bald ****, an ugly **** or a Karen? Is there really a difference between calling some a dumb **** and a retard? Where do mongoloid and spastic sit these days in the spectrum of taboo insults? Is it okay to call them unco or dickfingers instead?

Lenui is obviously a gigantic dickhead. But are you allowed to call him that? What if he starts crying?

At some point you have to harden the **** up and move past this hysteria.

Society has become fairly clear and progressed on racial slurs (ignoring the extreme sensitivity). I would suggest you buy an island, buy a starlink and start writing columns from your new found land.

OMG -- no tears -- big strong boy!

You know exactly why calling a person of colour is horrible, but I'll lay it out quite simply for you. We're all descendants of apes, and calling a person of colour a monkey suggests that they are not evolved like a 'normal' human. There is no way that someone can degrade another human being of colour more than with these words.

And skip me with the "tHiS iS jUsT mY oPiNiOn" bullshit - you either support Ezra or you shut the **** up.

Having already outed myself as a white person….

The roosters **** is also a ‘person of colour’… monkey is about as tame of a racial slur as possible…

I don't need this topic whitesplained to me like it's something profound.

But why? This topic is about someone being racist to Mam. Trying to dilute the current situation to an issue about "we shouldnt say names" seems to communicate that you think it's all on the same level.
The point is he was trying to rattle Ezra with what is really a thoroughly meaningless insult. I'm thoroughly versed with why it's taboo, and am completely over it being used as a political gotcha. Ezra is a multimillionaire, a superstar. The insult doesn't land, despite everyone wanting it to.

I am trying to move beyond what everyone understands, beyond yet another piling on of outrage and look to the future where all insults will be on par with this.

For example, in five years the following insults will be taboo:

"Why can't you see this: are you BLIND?" - vision impairment.
"Did you not hear me: are you deaf? - hearing impairment.
"Are you dumb?" - learning/speech disability.

Following that, you will no longer be able to insult professions such as journalism, law or refereeing openly. I am not even joking or hyperbolizing. This will happen.

Didn't expect 'justify racism' to be marked off my BHQ bingo card so soon.
Fair….

I’m not trying to defend him, but I think the reaction is OTT.

He’s a ****, but tell him that to his face and move on…

There’s a massive level of pearl clutching going on itr…

Point of trivia: my ex girlfriend's nickname (Mona) means monkey in Spanish. So everyone called her "monkey." One of her best friend's surname was Negro. Which means "black."
Was she black though?

You're still a flog.
You called me a name… might cry about it!

Or, I’m an adult who has been called names, both good and bad for 37 years so I won’t let it effect me!
