Should Wayne Bennett's Contract be Extended?

I feel bad for Wayne, but he has to bear some of the guilt here. He needs to wake up to his age and the reasons why the club is looking to the future (I don't agree with the timing, I personally think that Wayne could go on a few more year, but he is getting progressively worse as a head coach), instead of threatening to tear the club apart by taking jrs with him.

The Dragons fans are delusional if they think Wayne will be the instant fix they need. Their squad is still odd with shunts like Hunt getting massive dollars and their outside backs sucking. Their forwards also appear to be injury prone, overrated, and also on big money. He won't be able to do what he did last time there and buy the squad he wants, and he isn't the same coach as he was back then either in terms of his abilities in the modern game.

I can see him succeeding at the Panthers because their squad is pretty decent, overrated, but decent.

so how long can he survive just on just his name. he hasn't won a premiership in 8 years and in his 4 years back we have been going in the wrong direction on the ladder.

He did set the bar pretty high making the GF but seriously?

As I've said, I have no real problem moving him along at the end of his contract. I do have an issue with firing him, especially if they don't have someone lined up. As to how long he can survive on his name, 1 year. The remainder of his contract.

Exactly my thoughts. We dunno if our next coach, doesnt matter who it is, is the next Wayne Bennett or not till he has a go.
Also, Bennett, or any coach for that matter, could be great with one team and not so much with another. Depending on personalities

Ok. That didnt work. Supposed to quote Mrs Long

Or mr slong

The article I read not long ago has changed my tune a little. The one about McGuire being a "done deal" here. It states up the top that we've offered him a Front Office position of some sort. I have no idea what that means but it certainly points to them wanting him to remain at the club in some capacity.

So apparently Maguire has been offered a deal after a secret meeting and Bennett has been offered a different role at the club. I wonder who we will be after tomorrow.

Would rather kevie or seibold with Wayne here in some capacity.

It's what I was told about six weeks ago and posted here.

So what does this mean for TPJ?
I have no love for maguire at all , in fact i dislike him and his footy style. The team he had in 2014 and the form of their star players was enough to get him a premiership, then look what happened. I don't want this joker anywhere near my team.

that article about Maguire succeeding Bennett also states:

As part of the selection process for Brisbane’s next coach, a key criteria is that Bennett’s successor must have a premiership on his resume. Maguire ticks that box.

so that would rule out JD or Kevvie ... it also rules out Hook (praise jebus)

I just saw this Maguire rumour. I would take just about any coach over him. If he is the head coach his team will bore us to death long before we notice we actually won something.

I am not a massive fan of Seibold either but at least his teams try to score points and use the outside backs for more than hit ups and second man plays.

2012 - 3rd
2013 - 2nd
2014 - 3rd Premiers
2015 - 7th
2016 - 12th
2017 - 12th

Maguire's coaching record.

Premiership doesn't mean shit to me, it was 4 years ago. Last 2 years finished 12th twice... Hardly someone I'm jumping to sign as coach.

Maguire is good at building a side, but he isn't that good at maintaining it and keeping them successful.

He overworks his players and that's exactly what happened at Souths. Eventually they just burned out. His gameplan was also predictable and easy to defend against.

I have heard a few times that Madge believes he has learnt from his time at Souffs - especially regarding the fact he worked his players too hard. I think there are a few blokes in our team that could do with a bit of a wake up call with fitness, so long as he doesn't over play his hand there..
Maguire wouldn't be the first on my list, but I would have to say its probably the most believable of all the coaching speculation to Brisbane.
To me it sounds like Brisbane want Wayne gone ASAP.. I think they are reluctant to sack him, due to the potential hurt of members and the clubs reputation. There is also the very strong possibility for Wayne to take the players he is close to with him to a new club, if he can convince players that he has been mistreated.

My best guess is that they are wanting a coach that could potentially coach for 2019, but will not sack him.
Should Wayne be offered a contract for 2019 and beyond elsewhere, would suit the club allowing Maguire to slot straight in without having to pay Wayne out and allow him to leave, rather then sack him.

It is possible Mcguire learnt from the last years but personally I don't want him.
I'd be very happy to give seibold a go because I live the style he coaches

I think there is a good chance Madge is an interim coach for 2019 and Seibold gets the gig after his contract runs out. Personally I can't see that happening but the contract situation does line that up.

I doubt that happens.

So Wayne has been offered a role from 2020 on, not as head coach though.
