2019 Broncos Line-up

BRONCOS HALVES TO LINK WITH JOHNS

New Broncos coach Anthony Seibold knows he will live or die on the success of his halves combination of Kodi Nikorima and Anthony Milford next season.

And that is why he is sending the pair to Sydney soon to meet up with former Newcastle and Test five-eighth turned TV star Matthew Johns.

There are few more astute former players in the game than Johns and he will give their pair a masterclass in playmaking for several days.

Nikorima and Milford has their moments in 2018 but overall lacked consistency - a vital area of the game that Johns will attempt to correct.

that's not a bad idea ... Johns has had some success coaching halves in the past ...

I know we have a couple of legendary halves at the club in Lockyer and Langer ... but they are more instinctive players, so it is much harder to coach that into players

Sort of a misleading headline. Yes, I know it is not a lie but Matthew is not the Johns you usually think of when it comes to the Johns name.

Siebs seems to like travelling around to get the very best out of everyone, including himself. One of the things I love about working in a top of the field institute, they don't try and cut corners at every opportunity, they want to be the best and it inspires you to try and be your best too.

Would have preferred it if Johns came into training to help out.

Sorry Kev

Whilst Joey is more renowned on the field I believe it has been Matthew that is high up on the halves coaching side of things.

I believe he is pretty much a go to for halves coaching nowadays and was heavily involved in coaching Cronk and now Brodie Croft, as well as many many other halves in the comp these days.

He's also very astute when speaking about the game and especially speaking about halves play. I believe there was a segment on NRL 360 last year regarding his observations on halves play, which was pretty well received by most good judges.

I think this is a great move by Seibold and I'm sure if it proves beneficial he would look to arrange more sessions with Johns.

Boyd would be at Souths if he had any petrol left in the tank. Wayne knew he was cooked. Souths knew.

He has his Golden Deal signing til 2021 with post career enticements and he will milk it til the well is dry.

I think Darius will put in 100% and milk his talent for all it is worth this year.

Lol, Boyd is well known to be one of the fittest players and also looks after himself as well as anyone in the NRL. He is an ultimate professional in that regard.
Just a lazy prick on the field...

Our back 5 made the least metres of any back 5 in the comp last year, no surprise it was Boyd who made the least either...

Finally some specialist tutelage for the halves. I’m low key pretty excited about this season. Any news on joe offa? Saw something that he left training early

He's not lazy though, he is constantly leading kick chases. Maybe he lacks a bit of "heart" diving on loose balls or putting his body on the line but he was playing injured the whole year and I blame that on Bennett for not sitting him out to get better.

I reckon we'll see a totally different Darius this year (back to his best) if he can get through the pre-season unscathed. I thought he was really good in the last month and a bit, if dishes up another year of his first 18 or so rounds, then I'm all for him to be moved on.

Not serious apparently. Should be back training in a couple of days.

I dunno, i've seen a lot of laziness in not getting back in to position etc. I really wish they would release the 'telstra tracker' info for the season because i'd really be shocked if he ran more than any of the other starting fullbacks in a game. Of all the Broncos home games, it appeared as though everytime the opposing fullback was far more mobile / covering far more ground than Boyd does in both attack and defence. Attack is the area that I personally think he is most lazy, seems to never be in position to receive an offload or anything like that which really irks me.

A telstra tracker would certainly aid those who definitely don't watch games to create opinions. Seems like you're doing well enough without one though

Is that supposed to be a dig? I just want to see the actual numbers, perhaps he moves more than it appears he does. Or maybe he moves a whole lot and just doesn't get a result from it... But honestly i cant imagine that he would move anywhere near as much as Slater / RTS / Tedesco / Holmes / TTurbo.

Spot on

If I had to choose one Johns to coach the halves, it would be Matty not Joey, every time

Seemingly AS feels the same :)
