2024 pre-season discussion: Pre-season Premiers

Anyone wants to have a laugh read Facebook comments about brisbane not being happy with the draw...

"Boohoo the broncos might need to travel out of Brisbane this year" is the most common comment... hahahahaha these are Sydney team fans! Not even joking, they are THAT stupid they don't realise hahaha... if we have 14 games in brisbane (highly likely) that is still less games in Sydney then every single Sydney team, plus they have the long travel of Wollongong, Newcastle and Canberra possibly all thrown in hahaha.

Our draw was the hardest last year, every single grading system showed it yet when we started winning they never mentioned it again and made out like we had some massive advantages. Same will happen this year no doubt. That 1st 5 rounds has already shown the nrls hand with us. Bring it on. Walters and the team obviously have an us vs the world mentality and the nrl is helping us by fucking us every year with the draw. We don't want Friday night games! Take them! Oh wait, you also want the TV money we generate to keep you pokies machine loving Sydney clubs alive you say? Tough choice then ain't it.

I saw this as well and thought Patty and Payne would be higher, but realised they rarely played 80mins... so won't be accumulating as many minutes.

Would be interested to see similar, but how many actual games they were involved in... as that would then take into account training, etc. where they had to prep for the game as well as actually taking part in it.

Feels like Patty and Payne had a huge workload this year and shouldn't be back at training until mid-January so they can actually have a break before the season starts up again... except they'll be on a 14hr flight to the states

Happy to see Reyno climbing so many places. It suggests the club knows what it's doing in maintaining his body going into his twilight years.

I'm honestly getting excited for what Willison will bring in 2024. If he can get on top of his injuries, he has the potential to be better than Flegs even. A fit and firing middle of Haas, Carrigan and Willison can take it to Penrith. The big question for me is how we go about replacing Herbie. I think Selwyn could be elite at centre and I LOVE Aquaman, I think he has the potential to turn out a bit like Addo-Carr which is exciting.

As long as aquaman doesn't participate in the Koori knockout I'm fine

I got bored and made a tier list for 2024. Knights was a tough one, but I think if they don't go with the Ponga experiment at 6 again they should get some more wins in 2024. Warriors might drop off a bit, Bulldogs have some new players to help get a few more wins, Raiders without Wighton might struggle initially, and Cowboys will still suck. I probably should have put the Dolphins higher (but it kinda depends how Souths and the Roosters go).

Dragons and Raiders squads look horrendous this year.

I think raiders will finish around bottom 4, but should have enough to guts out some wins.. if Ricky loses the dressing room they're spoon contenders.

Dragons I think have the worst squad in the comp and their captain and best player doesn't even want to be there. If Bhunt leaves they're in all sorts.

The issue with the tigers to me is the coaching... I think the appointment of Sheens has set them way further back then what they should be.

Their squad is better than dragons, but Sheens was absolutely hopeless with what he had available... could tell his methods were well outdated.

Sharks aren't a top 4-6 team... they just get a piss weak draw every year. I'm starting to wonder if Fitz actually is a good coach. I don't think he's ruthless enough.

He kept plodders like Wade Graham in the team each week even though him coming on as a ball playing lock didn't suit the style he wanted to play. In any given game he would have 3 different types of lock operating through the 80mins... Finucane as a stock standard 3rd prop, McInness as a small mobile middle getting quick ptb and then Graham coming on as a ball playing pass first lock.

How can a team function if the coach can't decide on which way he wants the team to play.

I got bored and made a tier list for 2024. Knights was a tough one, but I think if they don't go with the Ponga experiment at 6 again they should get some more wins in 2024. Warriors might drop off a bit, Bulldogs have to players to get a few more wins, Raiders without Wighton might struggle initially, and Cowboys will still suck. I probably should have put the Dolphins higher (but it kinda depends how Souths and the Roosters go).

Knights in top 3 is a pretty wild prediction. I actually think they overachieved this year

I think the Sharks, with their easy draw, have enough to scrape into the top 4. They'll lose to the top teams, but put monster scores on everyone else. They have a lot of speed in their backs.
