Reece Walsh absolutely has to be our priority and what we build the club around... along with Patty.

I'm assuming the upgrade and extend will begin next year though, which means we could be going through the same "testing the market" blah blah blah all over again in 12 months time.

We cannot lose him again though!!

He does now know what the other side looks like though... he took the money at the warriors and whilst he exploded on the scene in year 1, he very quickly fell back to earth in year 2.

He comes back to the Broncos and within 12 months they're comparing him to Billy Slater, he's taken over the origin fullback jersey and they're talking about him getting the Aus jersey.

Would all that still be happening at a Sydney club... maybe... but you could also ask Sam Walker how things are going down there.

The way he already speaks, looks and plays. If he stays at the Broncos his whole career he could play for a pie and coke and he’ll still retire a very rich man.

We’ve had Haas, Mam, & now a story about Walsh becoming a “$1.6m man” when he fields offers NEXT NOVEMBER! 🙄

There’s clearly vultures circling trying to pick the eyes out of our roster by pushing up prices.

That's not really what he's writing at all. He clearly says if Tino and Haas are worth 1.2 what is a spine player worth?

Have we shifted from spine players being worth the most to front rowers or will Walsh tip it back towards spine players next November?

If front-rowers are now worth $1.2 million plus, he’ll surely go to $1.6 million or more and become the highest paid player in any football codes in this country. Even more than Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii’s rugby union deal. And certainly worth it.

Isn't Ponga on a reported 1.4 or 1.5m?

So front rowers are not worth the most and have never been.

Hey Buzz, if Reece is worth $1.6m what is dual premiership winner Cleary worth? $2m? Jog on and write an article on how Penrith should be upgrading Cleary. You can add Edwards and co to that article too.
DD won’t let out cap get seibold’ed again.
Reece now knows that the grass isn’t greener. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t absolutely ecstatic with an upgrade to around the $1m mark and extended for a further few years.
It’s hilarious the hate this club got a few years back, even last year around salaries and players. Now that we are going alright and our players are starting to play to their potential, the same journalists are writing articles questioning how we are going to keep them all and dictating what their salaries should be.
And just because the titans are desperate doesn’t mean that the entire player market needs to be unnecessarly inflated.

It's the first paragraph.

The NRL player market is spiralling out of control.
If front-rowers Payne Haas and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui are worth $1.2 million or more a season, what is Brisbane Broncos fullback superstar Reece Walsh worth? Or Nathan Cleary?

Does Ponga have a 10-year deal?

I think in light of a front rower signing a 10 year deal it's a very relevant question.

tbh I haven’t read the article. Sick of the rubbish these journos turn out. And just because the titans decided to pay Tino $1.2m doesn’t mean that the player market needs to be inflated. Desperate clubs will take desperate measures.

The NRL can once again thank the titans for destroying the market - they even did it immediately the day the new deal came out.

Children

NRL: okay, here ya go guys. The new cap, now remember that this needs the last you unti….

Titans: we spent it all on forwards!

Buzz is speculating on what Walsh must be worth relative to the latest market. He's not announcing any bids. It's nothing to lose your rag over. You might even like to speculate yourself:

"Which brings us back to Walsh, this incredibly gifted Broncos fullback already being compared to Slater or any of the great fullbacks. He’s still just 21 and earning $450,000-a-season. Walsh will go onto the open market in November next year. If front-rowers are now worth $1.2 million plus, he’ll surely go to $1.6 million or more and become the highest paid player in any football codes in this country. Even more than Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii’s rugby union deal. And certainly worth it."

I only read the blurb.

He did write much the same about Mam this time last week, I’m sure there’s a Piakura story in the works too. At this rate we’ll have no one left & we haven’t even been successful yet…

Come on now, he's not speculating, he's instigating and insinuating, like he does with 90% of his "material". How has this becoming the standard of journalism in this country, its terrible and bias.
Why Walsh? He's off contract in 2 years time. Sure hes the hot new thing but there are plenty of rep players off contract before he is. Our popularity is more of a course then a plus in this country. I have no doubt that the news limited team has kpis regarding clicks and that makes us an easy target. Quality of journalism is not important given Murdoch has wiped out all competition, now with vlandys help by cutting the nrls media footprint as part of his cut price deal of the century.

If he had have used another fullback or player there would be blow ups about Walsh not getting enough media attention from the NswRL media...
No, no, it's the MURDOCH media. You know the evil mastermind who owns the Broncos and Storm and who orders the touchies to allow forward passes against us.
