It’d be nice to see Willison play on the edge and terrorise the opposition like Haumole does for Manly. Not sure how long Piakura could be out for but it’d be a good way to slot Willison straight into the side without changing anything else.
Don't think he is at the the stage of his career where he could start in the second row. Better to have him come off the bench in place of Taupau or Baker and then if Piakura is out, have Hunt start in the second row.

In my honest opinion Willison is more ready for NRL than Piakura so.. Not sure it matters.

Yeah cool. And Willison is more ready than Mozer doesn’t make him a good hooker but. It’s apples for dicks. Not fucken relevant at all.

Sounds like you have an apple and/or a dick up your ass. Willison can play backrow mate.

I dont think anyone at the Broncos see's Willison as a back rower. Not going to pretend i've seen heaps of him play coming through, but i dont ever remember seeing him play edge back row.

Willison had like one good game, that was in a pre-season rep game.

Prior to that not many Bronco fans would have seen too much of him as he's found himself injured quite frequently. Piakura was really getting into the swing of things towards the back end of last season.

Willison was playing great before he got injured last year. Got a couple of barnstorming tries from memory

Willison could POTENTIALLY go ok at second row but coming back from a knee reconstruction and several other injuries, you wouldn't be banking on it as his lateral movement is likely affected. We do need punch off the bench and that has Willison written all over it.

We should elevate Patston though.

We could go back and forth all day about this but ultimately only one thing matters and that’s that Carrigan is never moved from the middle again. I don’t care who plays back up second row, Kev can line up there if it means Patty stays at lock

What makes you think he is more ready than Piakura? Also, how is that relevant? They are two different positions.

He runs on the left edge- sometimes rarely but has done it to run at a half and get a quick play the ball. Can't think of too many times he's done it at NRL

He's a middle, he wouldn't have helped too much against the Roosters because he's best in short sharp runs. His runs in the middle create space wider out for edges when he gets a quick play the ball or sucks in three defenders in the middle. He can have an impact on an edge without being on an edge.

Yep to Patston, was the best SR in the trials. Power game over Piakura's finesse. Looks big enough to cover middle too at a pinch.

Would do a job as that bench SR.

I don’t agree. We are talking about a bloke that hasn’t performed that highly in cup at second row for very long to chuck him into a role where he would be required to play some decent middle minutes no thank you. As an out and out second rower get him in the squad he was great but we shouldn’t be carrying a specialist second rower on the bench without having proven any middle forward ability. On the flip side Jaiyden Hunt is just as much a prop and lock as he is a second rower.

By the sounds of it Kev will use Willison as the cover going forward considering he consciously gave him reps at second row during the pre-season. He originially selected him at SR in that Parra or Chooks game at the Gabba last year but ended up going with Carrigan. Who knows what will happen but I don’t think Patston is the option to go with in the 17 at all.

Think people are getting carried away with two trial games and Patston. He’s played half a season across three clubs and four years. There is no rush you’ve got until June 30. I’d be waiting to see him start this year. There is a chance he’s not even in Cup at the Bears- Schwass and Coster are the better players and are premiership winners- if a Bronco forward got dropped I know who I’d send to the Gold Coast comp.

Is it worth considering having a backrow/centre option on the bench instead of a middle/backrow option.
If any of our outside backs go down we're moving Piakura or Riki into the centres which probably isn't ideal.
Haas and Carrigan both play big minutes and Jensen played 56 on the weekend. Between Kobe and Willison/Taupau/Baker you've got middle minutes covered plus you can put Walters/Smoothy back on to play Carrigans role in the middle like what happened in the Roosters game.
I think someone like Hoeter could play this role (centres should be able to handle backrow more so than a middle forward).
If no injuries happen you could still put them in the middle and do a Herbie like work rate for 20 mins with speed and footwork against a tired defence.
