QLD- will they do it?

Is Winterstein a QLDer? I am not a big fan of Boyd. If Tonga can stay fit, I would prefer him to be our left winger, with Hodges and Izzy on the right side. Prefer Thurston to Prince, he is just a better Origin player IMO.

As for the forwards, I think Dave Taylor will get picked. He is quite unique in what he offers and I can't see him being left out. Also, with a little luck, Crocker will have signed with Souths by this month, meaning QLD's best Origin player of the past 5 years will be back again!

Nah, I think Winterstein is a NZer. I disagree about Tonga playing on the wing - he's a centre and nothing else. If he starts playing better (at least 3/4 of how he did in 2004), I'd like to see him and Hodges in the centres, which would push Inglis and Folau on the wings where they belong IMO. Both are the best finishers of backline movements in the world, and are actually good defensively there too, unlike in the centres.

Winterstein was born in NZ but his junior club is Logan Brothers so he may be eligible for QLD.

I'd give Stagg the 13 over Dallas Johnson. He fills the 80 minute tackling machine role just as well, but offers a lot more in attack, especially this year.

Let's pray Steve Price's throat injury clears up:
"I fractured my larynx on both sides in 2002 and that's why I talk the way I do," he said yesterday. "I've got a smaller than normal air passage in my throat because of that injury, and when I tackled [Manly prop] Jason King in the second round my throat landed right on his knee.

"I got a lot of bruising and swelling out of that. I played against Brisbane last weekend because the swelling had started to reduce, but while I was out there, my throat started swelling up again. I was struggling to breathe, which was a bit scary, and that's why I came off the field for a while.

"My air passage is only about half open this week and I've got a haematoma, as well as the swelling. The specialist said if I got another whack on it against Souths, it could close the passage and I wouldn't be able to breathe, so I have to miss that one."

You can debate who plays in the halves and the outside backs or even the back row, but Price is to me the absolute x factor for Queensland. He plays, Queensland is 10% better. He's like Webcke, and to a lesser extent Civoniceva, he plays at the same level regardless of the situation.

Webcke's long gone, so if one of the other two is out it means Queensland has a relatively fragile second front rower...no other Queensland front rower is like those guys.

Better develop one soon.

1. Slater
2. Folau
3. Inglis
4. Hodges (would have been Tate)
5. Boyd
6. Lockyer
7. Thurston
8. Price
9. Smith
10. Civoniceva
11. Thaiday
12. Harrison
13. Stagg

14. Hannant
15. Myles
16. Kenny
17. Hunt

Stagg must play, he's the form lock of the comp. Ditto Thaiday at second row. Webb should not even be in first grade at the moment. Hannant and Kenny will be our long term replacements for Price and Civo. Thaiday, Harrison and Stagg are all close to 80 minute players who will offset the sheer monstrous size of the rest of the pack. I like Hunt as a bench utility but I would not bring him on except to cover injury.

Boyd is in there by default.

In the short term I think Nate Myles could cover one of those two to start, in the longer term it's Kenny and/or Hannant.

Can't argue with your team gUt...looks great (other than Hodges, but there's not really any alternative right now).

Thurston has been in great form for the Cowboys, even though they've lost. Prince has lost games too. I still can't believe you people would drop the man of the series from last year???? Thurston & Lockyer >>>>>> Prince & Lockyer.

Thankfully I'm pretty sure Mal will choose Thurston anyway.

Yes, I am bias, Thurston is my favourite player.

I'd lvoe to see a Winterstein Blitzkrieg and steal that wing spot icon_thumbs_u

Oh and Stagg must NOT play Prop. I love the bloke but seriously, NO!

Can you believe I said Prop about Stagg, LOLZ wtf. No he must not play Lock
