2018 NRL Side

With the new changes could someone post a potential round 1 team

Geez some people are harsh on Boyd based on him struggling with injury last season. He offers a lot more than just safety under the high ball. He isnt the only player who whines at the refs either after being held down in tackles, he just seems the only one who is being pinged for it on here.

BHQ loves a scapegoat ...

Maybe Boyd is shaping as Ben Hunt's replacement as BHQ's offical scapegoat for 2018

Please, Milf cops it just as much. Boyd is the captain and a veteran, but still a big sook. Bad image and standard to set.

Or maybe the dude you can't express legitimate criticism towards without apologists having a go at anyone that does so.

Is it Boyd? Macca? Glenn?

Make your minds up, fellas, they can't all be scapegoats.

Why is he a sook? Is it because he takes exception to being held down in the tackle and not getting a penalty for it? or is there something else i'm missing? Like i said as well, plenty of other players whine a bit. I agree its not the best look, but he doesnt set a bad example in general around the place.

Dont really know what Milf has to do with it anyway quite honestly as i didnt say he is the only one who cops it.

HE’S a no-nonsense farm boy who one coach says is “mad” and Broncos officials are convinced Tom Flegler will form half of a front row combination that will one day rival that of club legends Petero Civoniceva and Shane Webcke.
The bookends for Brisbane’s last premiership success in 2006, Civoniceva and Webcke hold exalted status within the walls of the club’s Red Hill offices and senior Broncos officials see some encouraging similarities in 18-year-olds Payne Haas and Tom Flegler.
While Haas’s emergence has been well publicised Flegler’s addition to the NRL squad during pre-season has gone largely unnoticed by people outside the club but those on the inside see his future prospects as being just as bright.
Part of the Queensland under-20s training camp that gathered in Brisbane on Friday, Flegler is coming back from two shoulder reconstructions that ended his 2017 season in June but a former teammate of Webcke’s certainly sees some similar characteristics.

“They’re obviously different body shapes but in terms of being physical and the way he runs the ball and the way he tackles, he’s definitely like Shane Webcke,” Queensland 20s coach and former Broncos 20s assistant Justin Hodges told foxsports.com.au.
“That’s all he did, ran straight and did his job. Tommy’s a little bit more agile on his feet, he can play with the ball and draw defenders.
“He’s mad, that’s why I like him. Off the field he’s so polite but get him on the field you wind him up and boom, away you go
“He’s only got one speed and that’s fast.

“I just think he’s got all the ingredients to be a wonderful player for a very long time.”
The frustration of a first season at the Broncos last year wrecked by injuries has now been replaced by excitement for Flegler as he trains alongside the club’s modern greats such as Sam Thaiday, Darius Boyd and Matt Gillett.
Growing up on the 500-acre family banana farm in Tully in Far North Queensland, Flegler had aspirations of playing for the Cowboys but idolised Broncos legend Corey Parker who has been working with the club’s stable of young forwards throughout pre-season.
Signed by the Broncos after impressing in an under-15s state It’s always been a dream sacarnival in Brisbane, Flegler had three months in Tully last year as he recovered from shoulder surgery and is now itching to get back out on the field.
“It’s always been a dream as a young fella to play NRL so we’ll see how it goes,” said Flegler.
“I’m not really worried about what level I play this year, I’m just hoping to get through the first couple of games comfortably.
“Coming off two shoulder recons I’ll be quite nervous coming back so we’ll see how it goes, take it game by game.
“I had my first shoulder reconstruction done in June and then the second one 10 weeks later.
“The increase in intensity at training every day is a massive difference to what I’ve been used to but I’m loving it.

“I should be ready for a trial which will be nine months in between games of footy.
“I can’t wait to play.”
Having seen his performances at club level Hodges wanted to include the then 17-year-old in the Queensland 20s last year before he was booked in for his first round of surgery and is adamant he possesses the qualities needed to be a fixture in the Broncos front row.
“If he keeps his injuries under control and looks after his body I think he’s got a big future in our game,” said Hodges.
“When we lost him we lost a big part of our footy side.
“He’s tough, he’s physical, he doesn’t take a backward step, he puts his hand up, he’s fit, he does everything.
“He’s a guy that will carry the ball, put a big shot on, turn the game for you.
“There were times last year when I was running the water and I’d say to him, ‘We need something from you here’ and he’d take a big run or come out of the line and put a big shot on.
“He’s just one of those blokes that wants to do anything for his teammates.”

It was so much easier when Maranta was the scapegoat wasn't it.

Look, I like Boyd. But he has an element of the pea heart about him...he just does. Whether it's not having a dig trying to stop tries, or returning the ball, or whinging after being tackled - it's something that is obviously ingrained in who he is as a person. It's a bad quality for a leader. I was happy for him to become captain last year, but he needs to cut that shit.

He simply doesn't like getting tackled hard, who does right? But you just look like a bitch waving your arms about after being smashed. Milf cops it on here for whinging (probably justified), but again, he's had Hunt and Boyd to look up to the last few years, top notch sook-when-it's-not-going-our-way types.

Am I scapegoating Boyd by saying this? Is the whinging reflective of our team in general?

Maranta wasn't a scapegoat he deserved the shit we put on him.

Wish I could find the Youtube video of him bombing about 5 tries in one game alone

What I mean by what I said is he was the outlet of frustration, with him gone it has to go elsewhere now justified or not, it was a lot easier to focus that on him then it is now.

How I would like to be able to travel to a different dimension where Hunt doesn't drop the kick return in the grand final and we end up winning and seeing how it would go from there lol Sliders anyone?

We all would.

While I appreciate you qualifying your statement, I was only pointing out he's not the only one that cops it (and copping it doesn't equal scapegoating, imo).

When he whines at refs he actually stops playing completely. Stands there halting all momentum. A lot player whine but do so while still getting things moving or whine after the ball is played. As captain of the club is hella frustrating for the fans and that's why he cops heat from this forum.

https://www.broncos.com.au/news/2018/01/19/joe-returns-after-minor-surgery/

JOE Ofahengaue has overcome the effects of a long season with a minor surgery and is now ready to form a partnership with former adversary Matt Lodge.

Ofahengaue hurt his knee early last year but managed to get through the NRL season and finals and then go to the World Cup with Tonga.

He returned to running with the team this week while the Broncos were on camp on the Sunshine Coast.

"I came up with a little injury early in the season and I had to play through it," he said.

"So I just had to have a little clean out of my knee.

"Everything is good now, I just had my first skills session back with the boys, so I am feeling good."

It has let Ofahengaue re-acquaint himself with new Broncos' prop Matt Lodge.

The pair clashed playing against each other in the under-20s when Lodge was at the Tigers, but then formed up when they were both picked for the Junior Kangaroos side in 2014.

Ofahengaue said Lodge would bring his competitive nature to the Broncos.

"We didn't really get along too well in the 20s," he said.

"When I met him in the Kangaroos camp he wasn't a bad bloke and we have kind of bonded since then.

"He's just a competitor and that's what I like about him and what I hope he brings to the club."

Search Round 17, 2013.

That game was a lot closer than what the scoreline suggested. We were well in it but Maranta just bombed try after try after try.

I just wish that the refs would see that Boyd and Milford are more often than not held down longer than necessary. The fact that they're perceived as whingers helps opposing teams because they know they can get away with more when tackling them.
