The first half is worrying. It's like its a strategy with the way we are winning games. Go in the grind and play them even in the first half and then pull away in the second half. I'm not sure that's the best way to win playing the best teams at the back end of the year. There have been times were have looked vulnerable before pulling away from teams. Instead of dominating from the outset which the best teams do in the NRL.
Eh??

The issue is that we're NOT getting in the grind. We're trying to be too flashy, throw passes when we shouldn't.

The moment we hold the ball and run straight and hard is when we look the best.

I thought there was a slight change (improvement?) in our attack last night, Kevvie has obviously put the reins on them a bit. Our defence was the issue in the first half, there's not much you can do when a team is coming at you like the tits did. In those situations you've gotta bunker down and weather the storm, focus on line speed and first contact. All of tits tries were defendable and the first half ones were especially soft.

Agreed. I think the Titans were really good for about 50 minutes, barely made a mistake and as soon as they started to go back from that really high level, we blew them away. We weren’t great but we weren’t as bad as a lot thought, the Titans should get credit for playing as well as they did for so long.

I get it that this club has been battered from pillar to post with some massive blowout scores over the last few seasons so Kevvie is letting them really revel and soak up the joys of winning at the moment.

However, this is also the time where he should be coming down on ill-discipline like a tonne of bricks.

Three weeks running Capewell has given away silly penalties by not getting off the tackled player. Last night that cost us six points. Then we had Paddy flick Fifita in the face in front of our posts which cost us another 2 points. Dumb, immature and selfish play. Even more so when it's coming from two of the 'leaders' of the team.

So realistically if we had been a little wiser and a little more switched on the halftime score should have seen us leading 10-6 despite the tits having 60 or 70 % of possession.

That sort of schoolboy nonsense needs to be stomped on hard now as other teams like the storm or roosters will take those points and continue on with the momentum. Those teams will not allow us to come back into the game. I think Canberra already showed us that.

Sure it's a fine balance as coach working out when to praise and when to cajole. When it comes to poor self-discipline it's a no-brainer as a coach that you hammer the perpetrators.

We have the makings of a world beating side, every week though they start poor because they all have a poor attitude to discipline.

Sort that out and this team will be unstoppable.

To be fair after that domination and flick from patty, fifita went into his shell for the remainder of the game. But generally agree. The first half was just silly errors and dumb penalties.

We won, and I'm pleased about that, but there are so, so many areas we need to improve.

The first half was diabolical. Second half a lot better.

Still concerned with how we'll go against the stronger teams.
If we keep dishing up the same disjointed first halfs then the stronger teams will have us cooked by half time.
Too much trying to score of every play and not enough patience on building pressure and maintaining field position.
The real test will come round June/July ,just hope we can cover all positions..
Still at 12 points ,pro not too much to complain about at this stage .
PS : someone have a talk to Cobo about ball security …maybe not Kevin though😂

Same as everyone else, ugly win, but a wins a win.
Yeah,

it was like watching 2 hillbillies shoot a can off the fence. What an absolutely shit first half. Not confident at all going forward after watching this. FMD Kev sorry, but your boy is cooked. He tries hard but just not the quality player we need for this team. This performance was just all over the place, I mean we need to win well, but we look at times to be playing without a plan. Enjoying Riki and Walsh's efforts but that's about it for me. Our attitude in defence better improves or we're on a very slippery slope, for the next 4 to 5 games ahead. And Patty at the death FFS catch the fucking ball and go to ground, they pulled our pants down, Anyway Suck that Tits, Lets Go Broncos.

suck it tits ,Lets Go Broncos.

I'm unhappy. That was hot garbage for the majority of the game and the scoreline is not reflective. I actually feel for the Titans ending up with that, they were not that much worse. And the worst part is that it will paper over the SEVERE issues we have, bc we won so why change things.

Nothing has changed. We apparently learnt nothing from last week and the couple of weeks beforehand. Not prepared to do the hard work in the middle, refuse to build pressure, always going the hail Mary play... We bring that the next month and we lose every fucking game. Atrocious.

I'm really disappointed and now also concerned that we are still relying on individual brilliance to pull through. It is not good enough with a squad with this talent. I played through the season in the NRL ladder predictor lastnight and let me tell you, we have a really tough draw. It only gets worse from here, I'm glad we're banking these wins now because we really need to. It is quite possible we do not make the 8 even from where we are now. The saving grace is a lot of the top teams playing each other multiple times.

There is a hell of a lot to work on and I'm concerned Kev doesn't see it. Whatever he's saying before the game isn't working, thankfully whatever he's saying at half time, is. The bench use tonight was terrible and seems to be getting worse each week.

I'm satisfied that we won, but very very displeased with the way we played and the lack of improvement. We play like that and we will lose more than we win. WTF happened to the team from the first couple of rounds?? We need to get back to that ASAP. We might still be alone at the top of the table but IMO at the moment we are not a serious title threat. Melbourne, Panthers and probably even Souths and Roosters would kill us right now.
totally agree Little D , it was like watching 2 hillbillies trying to shoot cans off a fence.!

Not to mention he's far from the biggest issue in the team.

Capewell was poor again this week, an error and 3 penalties. At least he wasn't a total liability in defence tonight.
At times last night he actually looked stuffed, he could do with a spell but we don't carry a 2nd rower on the bench.

I hope deep down the reason is he never used a player agent and it turns out the club were underpaying him and ripping him off for years.
That could be the case, I remember reading somewhere that he said he always negotiated his own contracts and his last contract was for $235k a season, I would have thought he would have been on more money than that, he was probably to tight to pay for a manager, anyway, I thought his missus was supposed to be his manager

One aspect that everyone forgets is that each week we have another team trying to win as well, you can only play as well as the opposition lets you play

Thought Titans were awesome in the first half and we were very lucky to be within striking distance of them. Herbie’s try was lucky, and probably blew the wind out of their sails. From there we just had to play pretty good footy, and we ran away with it. Too much strike power

I thought from about the 50th minute we started to look like we had settled and were beginning to overpower them. Herbie had a couple of strong runs early in the tackle count that just swung the momentum. This was the first time i noticed Titans looking gassed.
From there on I thought if we completed well we would come home over the top.

Luckily we did just that.

I thought Hetherington added another threat to our middle as well. He has to be in the 17 next week.
