That is the worst bet anyone could take, no doubt at all that is where he will end up. Somehow though, the Roosters won't have to pay full freight AND not give up someone in return.

Nah he actually forfeited his final two years to sign with another club
I don’t think he will be able to get a contract higher than 800k but due to the Matterson rule

Very similar to tpj he forfeited the remainder of his contract imo should be held to the same standard as far as valuing for his next one.
For sure shouldnt be able to go to the storm or roosters ect on peanuts.

you also need to remember that is just what was reported. the NRL never actually had to make decision on TPJ because we never tried to sign him.

I do doubt that the NRL's notional value is based purely on contract value. remember TPJ was also an Origin rep last year.

FWIW i think you should be able to go anywhere you like for what ever you want,if you want to go for unders because you want to play there or you think you will be better off in the long run go for it imo.

I can see why they brought in the notional value ... but like everything else they haven't implemented it well. it lacks transparency and consistency. there should be some publicly know formula. probably based on number of NRL games played. (then add a bit on top for rep games etc).

although it won't happen, let's just say for arguments sake, that Reece Walsh wanted to go to the Storm, and was prepared to go there for a minimal wage (as that's all the cap space the Storm had available). should the NRL allow it to happen?

I honestly dont think the NRL should be able to dictate what a player is or isnt happy earning. At the end of the day, if a player is happy taking home $400k a year instead of $800k a year thats his choice, its only affecting him and his family. Who are they to tell him he cant do that.

in a free market he should be able to sell his services for what he likes so yes,you can be guaranteed if walsh re-signs for us it will be under what he could get elsewhere.

they already do tell players what they can earn ... there is a salary cap that effectively restricts what players can earn.

so just to be clear are you saying that you would be perfectly fine with a club, any club signing the likes if Reece Walsh, Nathan Cleary, Payne Haas, Cam Munster etc for the minimum wage of 120k a year (assuming said club could convince them to accept that figure)

its up to clubs to become a attractive place for players to want to come and play
