OFFICIAL Bellamy extends contract with Melbourne Storm

I’m wondering if it’s more related to the coaching cap. The broncos have a large coaching team, so the cap must be spread, whereas Melbourne likely don’t have the same spread, allowing them to put more cash into the head coaching position. This theory doesn’t explain the egotistical ****-swinging of pronouncing their ‘turn-over’ figure, though. It’s really puzzling because turn-over figures mean jack shit. It’s the profit margin that matters most. Either way, the Broncos organisation surely have the biggest **** in this dick measuring contest that the Storm want to play...

apparently the off field spend cap (or whatever the **** they are calling it) is not as firm as the players salary cap (so to speak) ... should a team breech it they would just have to pay a fine (not sure what the formula is to work out the fine)...

I also recall reading that Melbourne actually have a bigger coaching team than we do

I don't think money will be the deciding factor, as both clubs will probably cover Craig's demands.
The Broncos have 2 major items in their favour:

- A fantastic young roster which only requires a halfback.
- The best training facilities and support organisation.

It's honestly a no brainer in that aspect, so the only question is whether Bellamy feels he has a debt of loyalty towards Melbourne.

I don't particularly want Bellamy here ... but after that stupid comment from the Storm Chairmanm part of me wants to see the us flex our financial muscles just to show him how insignificant his little club really is

The broncos could pay bellamys salary whilst he enjoys a mid career retirement, waiting 10 years until bennett retires. All the while laughing at the storms financial strength claims....

Just on the off field cap. I hate it in the first place, what reward do well run clubs get these days? That problem with rugby league in this country is it will always try to pull the top clubs down to keep it “fair” for the bottom clubs. Why? Shouldnt the shit run clubs strive to be better or just simply dissapear. They hold the game back constantly...

The off field cap isnt going to hinder us at all though.. after reading about it, it actually helps us lol... every dollar over the “cap” you have to pay the nrl a 37% tax. Despite the claims of the storm chairman, there is only one club who can afford to pay an extra 37% for off field costs for the chamce of getting an advantage on the field without having financial worries..... and it isnt melbourne lol

I think you just answered your own question.... Gets paid to the NRL (an alternative revenue stream they are desperately after) and yet again it'll probably be the broncos propping up the system... and you just know the "journalists" will be hounding us again about getting an unfair advantage.

Win win for NSWRL

The cap isn't in place yet in the NRL.

It's interesting with the AFL, their clubs had on average a 10 person coaching team and then about another 10 in high performance with about 15 in the football department with another five in list management. What the cap in AFL has forced them to do is look at all those roles and decide what is really needed. You have 9.4 million soft cap to spend and you can go over but then you get taxed and the tax gets divvied up for everyone.

The AFL found that they didn't have a revenue problem but a cost problem, it was going up every year and more staff needed for clubs. The NRL is now looking at it the same.

Clubs waste money it's simple doesn't matter if it is the NRL or the AFL- 50 people looking after 25 players is just ridiculous. Still debate in the NRL should it be the average of the top three or what the 6th most spend. Average would be about 8 million 6th most would be 7.

The point that gets me always thinking is- there is no link between spending and success. In the NRL the top three spenders are Eels, Raiders and Dogs- Mmmmmmm.

Our most recent premiers weren't even in the top eight for spending.

Broncos spent about 7 million so they'd comfortably fit under the AFL cap but the NRL won't need to be that high. Av spend in the NRL is about 6 million.

It's salaries that are high- does an assistant coach in the NRL really need to be on 400K a year?

Head coaching salaries haven't changed in the AFL and I doubt they would in the NRL, average in the AFL is about 700k and it's stayed there.

morally questionable, but not really a conflict of interest.

Plenty have argued owning the state's media and the biggest football team in the state is a conflict.

Plenty have also given zero evidence as to how it benefits us considering the terrible state our media is currently in. We get some positive press every so often in a newspaper that nobody reads, meanwhile every other media source shits on the club at every chance they get.

None more than the single Brisbane newspaper that is meant to be creating the conflict of interest.

Coverage wise I still think the Broncos do well out of the Courier but favouritism wise I think that ended a long while ago and I don't think Fox do the Broncos too many favours.

Fox at least have Warren Smith and Andrew Voss that if not outright Broncos fans, are eminently fair and reasonable people, at least as far as they come across in their broadcasts.

Channel Nein could only wish as much....

Interesting fact when talking about whether we should get rid of Bennett for Bellamy ...

Both Bennett and Bellamy are at 7 wins and 5 losses for the year

and this is with the Storm having a team that has been pretty much unanimously consider much superior to our, including the great Smith and great Slater

They lost the QLD and Australian halfback. We lost a choker.

they are still regarded as a superior team to us ... and have at least 1 future immortal in their side ...

they halfbacks we have used this year are playing nowhere near as well as the halfback we lost. and lets not forget that we have also had a shitload more injuries than the Storm this year ...
